Free State Stars captain Duncan Lechesa has retired from football and tells KickOff.com why he took the decision.
Lechesa, who turns 34 on Monday, could be roped in to assist new Ea Lla Koto coach Sunday Chidzambwa. However, Lechesa says that’s not his only option.
“I might leave Free State Stars, because there are also a couple of offers from outside the club to coach,” he says. “I am looking forward to this challenge after retiring from football. I was thinking of retiring at the end of the new season, but people came with offers and now I’m thinking of what to do,” Lechesa tells KickOff.com.
‘King’ started his career as a striker and switched to midfield. He starred for Bloemfontein Celtic, Ajax Cape Town, Black Leopards and of course Free State Stars during his career and says he calls it quits a satisfied footballer.
“I feel good about my decision because I retired while still at the top. I was a regular last season for Stars but it is now a time for a new challenge,” Lechesa says.
“I will know on Monday where I will be heading, depending on whether I decide to leave Stars. But Bra Mike [Mokoena] has assured me that there is a place for me at Stars. I’m thinking about it,” Lechesa adds.
