First Division Thanda Royal Zulu have begun a major reshuffling in their team that has seen more than half the squad from last season leave.
The exodus has been led by former captain Ahmed Mohammed and Phil Evans, while at the other end former Bay United goalkeeper Tampungu Dikete has been signed.
Mohammed’s contract expired at the end of June and has not been renewed, while Evans is not returning as he is involved in a legal battle with the club.
The other players that will not be returning to join the club that has now switched to a new home in Richards Bay are Mandla Tsengwa, Tonic Chabalala, Isaac Leshabane, Siyabonga Mfeka, Michel Babale, Thabiso Rammile, Nduduzo Phakathi, Ivan Winstanley, Bongani Mbhele, Tshepiso Tshabalala, Reason Chlioane, Lindokuhle, Akeem Olubamiro and Dale Studzinski.
Eight of the survivors from last season’s team include Lucky Mzizi, Solomon Mathe, Chris Manoka, Nascent Nkhwashu and Peter Wadabwa.
“Ahmed Mohammed didn’t come back because his contract was up and he is still in his country [Ghana] right now,” says Thanda team manager Peter Koutroulis.
New head coach Professor Ngubane has assembled a team filled with players that he has previously worked with at Nathi Lions.
