Marseille dash Taiwo hopes

Posted: 2010-07-19 21:27

Marseille will not allow Taye Taiwo to leave the club this summer, despite reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Spurs are understood to have been interested in the Nigerian international for some time and Liverpool were believed to have emerged as contenders for his signature as Emiliano Insua prepares for a move to Fiorentina.

Club president Jean Claude Dassier is adamant Taiwo will remain with the Ligue 1 champions however.

"It's done. He's staying with Marseille," Dassier said, according to Sky Sports. "He's a top player and he should be staying here. I don't know if the old president promised that he could leave, but that's not me."

Taiwo has made no secret of his desire to leave, but it looks like his hopes of a move to the English Premiership is dashed.

I guess african players and their agents have to improve on how they tidy up these contracts. they should learn to exploit the "buy out" caveats when entering into contractual agreements with these money mongering european club sides. we have come of age in the exportation of foreign players, and as such, should have known better by now. these club sides don't care about anything else other than their money. ****u and the rest of these agents should get this fact into their skull.
sorry Taiwo, the second fiddle role to Gabriel Heinze is a bitter pill I must confess. but then, what do you do?

Davie: 2010-07-19 21:46

On the contrary, I don't see any dashed hope here. Every player has his price, if he keeps playing well and a serious club comes desperately for him with the right price, I don't see M****ille standing in his way. Meanwhile, I'll advice he improves on his defending, recovery rate and passing game before jumping the ship to England. He'll be duly exposed on the counter in a pacy league like the EPL, Udeze is a case study. Moreover, I'll advice you plays CL football with M****ille for one more season and increase your stock in Europe further for the coming season before making such move.

I have listen to all commentators on this site and this is my verdict:

1. Amodu should not be mention here. Nobody cheated him. He did not meet the expectations of Nigeria and NFF HAS NO CHOICE THAN TO FIRE HIM. HE WAS PAid his due. De Bosque win Champion leagues for Real Madrid but the Mgt still fire him bcos they felt he doesnt have the personality to handle Real madrid. So stop playing sentiment here.
2. Nigerians never ask for foreign Coach. All they want is Siasia but NFF FELT HE IS TOO ARROGANT. In yoruba there is a saying that KAKA KI EKU MA JE SESE, AFI SA WADANU. in other words, they will rather give the job to sumone else than give it to the man of the people. Thats why Lagerback come to the picture bcos they know that they can still convince nigerians with a foreign coach if Nigerians cant get what they want which is SIASIA. Atleast Siasia beats amodu flat during the interview. that is where the injustice started.
3. If you dont believe me, do Opinion Poll and you will see that 90% of Nigerian will vote for SIASIA to be the Coach of the Super Eagles. He is a no nonsense coach who will not bow to anybody and he is very hardworking. Do you think Siasia would have taken Yakubu, Yobo, ****tu , Afolabi and Co to World Cup?
4. I support the Federal Govt in all ther action so far. Infact all the NFF member should go. We need fresh hands. People like Segun Odegbami, John Fasanu, Kodjo Williams, Adokie should come on Board.
5. The greatest problem of Nigerian Football is Amos Adamu. As long as he is still there, Nigerian Football will never no peace. The man breeds Coruption and mediocrity. Sani lulu is from my state but he is not competent to be in that board.

Former Nigerian international and coach of Heartland Football Club of Owerri Samson Siasia has called for credible Nigerians to get on the board of Nigeria Football Association (NFA) when the board is elected come August 24.

Siasia Reflecting on the rots that led to the impeachment of the last board, Coach Siasia said he would like to see people with genuine interest of the sport at heart and not people who will focus on personal interests.

He said, “I am not in a position to say I want this or that person to be on the board of NFF, but for all that I know, there must be a lot changes.

We have to put the right people who will help us develop our football and not people who will go there for their personal gains. We need people who have money and not those that will go there to loot. That is the biggest problem we had in our sports.

“We just have to develop this game because we love it. And having seen what have happened in the last couple of years, what was going on in the NFF, then we have to take our time to assess people who are going in there to know what they are going there for.

Super Eagles and Portsmouth of England forward, John Utaka, has launched a foundation aimed at empowering Nigerian youths especially those at the grassroots. The foundation, known as John Utaka Foundation, was planned in a way that will impact on children and youth globally.

Utaka who disclosed this in Lagos last week during a media briefing said: “I believe that giving back to the society is very essential because I was in the system before I traveled abroad where I started playing my professional football. I started on the streets like most children in Nigeria. But I was fortunate to travel abroad where I was fortunate to be playing in one of the best football leagues in the world.

“I want people to understand that one has to remember where he came from. I believe that it is necessary for me to give back to the community and that is the reason I am doing this work.

“We all know the importance of education. Education is a human right and it should not be denied any child. That is the reason I believe that many children around the world will benefit from what we are doing in John Utaka Foundation.”

He said the foundation would work in partnership with other organisations like Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to empower the youth through providing them scholarships.

It would also empower the youth through work placements in Nigeria and overseas, enabling them to gain training and vocational skills through the foundation’s international partners.

Utaka said the foundation will also generate activities which would promote the arts, culture and sports, movies, football, photography and music to stimulate the development of young people.

In her remarks, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Mrs Comfort Ani, who also is a World Vice President of the Young Women Christian Association, said Utaka Foundation was standing on the foundation of a young man who is passionate about finding lasting solutions to social problems in the country.

Ani said that if young men would cultivate the kind of passion Utaka has for his community and country, the problems of the country would be solved easily.

According to her, the Foundation has visited some charity organisations like Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice in Surulere, Lagos as a sign of its commitment to support them.

The President of the Foundation, Ghana_born Michael Djaba saidt the John Utaka Foundation would serve as an example to other such foundations started by football stars with its commitment to making a difference in the lives of young people globally.

Djaba said that the Foundation has set up a training Centre in Enugu, where Utaka was born as well as other places to ensure the dream of making a difference in the lives of the young people through empowering them in many ways will be realized.

Heartland FC Owerri defender, Ikechukwu Thankgod said that their result against the Al Ahly of Egypt will not deter them from lifting the CAF Champions League trophy this year.

Thankgod submitted that Heartland can only get better leading to the business end of the continent’s richest club competition.

“This was not a bad start against Ahly because we have gone through this road before and came out better for it. We have a very good team who will go all the way and win the competition this year,” said Thankgod.

He also said the absence of the key players who were part of the team in the runners-up feat last year left a big hole club’s quest for another glory this year.

However, Mohamed Abou-Treika, a regular face in the Al Ahly in the continental club championship during the past half decade remains upbeat of the ‘Red Devils’ quest to grab a convincing result to put their ambitions of an unprecedented seventh title on track.

The talented midfielder has been an integral part of the Ahly squad since joining in 2004 and was instrumental in their continental conquest of 2005, 2006 and 2008.

Abou-Treika, twice winner of the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt in 2006 and 2008 who was named as Best Player on the continent by CAF in 2008 secured the much deserved point for his side in Owerri

“The result we got today (Sunday) is very important for our course. We know that we are in a very difficult group, but I want to say that we are focused for the game and we have prepared very well for the game this year and we are not going to let off any steam, nut improve on our performance with each game”, he said

When you are busy enjoying and doing what you do very well, it seems that time always flies. So Taiwo, don't worry. Before you know it you would have finished your contract which has just less than 10 months or so to go. Keep working hard. Every disappointment is always a blessing in disguise. Don't try to think that your managers at M****ille are blocking your future, No. Play the best you have in you for them this coming season and when it is time for you to move, you will be on your way happily.

@Profy, you are the one bringing AModu into this again. It is an established fact that it was very stupid to sack Amodu when we did, no matter that he may not have been the most likeable personality. The grouse of most of us was in the timing. Please check out all the previous posts on that subject.

Let us please move forward as we learn (hopefully) from the errors of our past. The time to appoint a coach for SE is NOW! and Siasia is the person. I support Siasia not because of popular opinion but because of the factor of achievements and continuity. He has a credible understanding of the crop of players who should be in the SE now, after all he groomed most of them at the junior level. Please let's forget the divisive matter of AModu's underserved sack for now.

Austin: 2010-07-20 12:45

And to me, TT should be moved from the flank defence into the defensive midfield role. He will do a wonderful job of shielding the defence with his strength. Then he will have the chance to take pot shots at the goal without compromising his defensive duties. For now, his sense of defence and recovery rate are not too appealing. That is the only reason he is warming the bench for Heinze. Anyway, he knows what he wants out of the game, an he should make up his mind no matter what we critics think.

Peziewalker : 2010-07-20 15:38

@ Austin,if u say u chose sia based on his achievemnt, den u may as wel say dat amodu is da bst local coach 2 lead our darlin eagles...sia lead d flyin eagles n dream team 2 2nd place in 2005 n 2008 respectively bt 2rut is dey r age graded competitions n he achievd dos feat by cheatin(over-aged)...bt amodu didnt cheat when he qualified d senior team twice 4 d wc aside 4rm leadin dem 2 3rd place finish in 2002 n 2010...bside,sia waz a flop in da last wyc in egypt...i stil prefer amodu 2 any local coach evn tho i dnt wnt him...

Austin: 2010-07-21 12:22

@Pezierwalker, your reasons for not supporting Siasia is logical, but I believe that we should be looking at the future. a few of us shouted that Amodu shouold be allowed to finish his assignment but the powers that be refused to listen, hence the disappointment at the WC. My support for Amodu as previously stated is for the sake of continuity. He has groomed a set of players that should form the core of the SE. Let him continue with them. They have a chemistry. He has demonstrated a commendable level of discipline with the players and also knkows how to handle the meddlers at the Glass HOuse. And do not forget that he was pressured into taking the Egypt job because we decided to be impatient with Bosso. We again sacked him with only a few weeks left to the tournament; what magic did you want Siasia to perform? Now is the time to give him the SE, and not wait for someone else to bungle the assignment before we look for the magic wand. There is no short cut to greatness but proper planning. Now is th time.
