Taiwo wants out of Marseille

Posted: 2010-07-16 10:05

Taye Taiwo has returned from his post World Cup holidays to tell Olympique Marseille he wishes to leave, French news reports said on Friday.

The fullback, who competed for Nigeria at the World Cup in South Africa, has told the French champions he wants to take up an offer from UEFA Europa League winners Atletico Madrid.

But Marseille’s coach Didier Deschamps says he is not willing to let the Nigerian go because he believes his other left-back, the ageing Argentine international Gabriel Heinze, will not complete an entire season with injury. Marseille not only defend their League title, but also play in the UEFA Champions League in the coming months.

Taiwo has already had discussions with Atletico, who have tabled a 4.5-million Euro offer.

Last season, Deschamps rejected a 12-million Euro offer from England’s Manchester City for the Super Eagles’ free-kick specialist.

This is the last chance for Marseille to make any money out of Taiwo, because he will be at the end of his contract in June next year and then able to go to any club of his choosing. Marseille’s directors might persuade Deschamps that it would be good business to let Taiwo go now, the reports added.

Haaba ! Mr Collins, are you just waking up from your self induced hang-over? Please search for more current news. A lot has been happening. What about the new NFF? Who is likely going to be the new SE coach? Wake up man !!

No Yakubus should get any invite to any of our national teams. So if you are a Nigerian and your name is Yakubu intend to play for any of our national teams, pls forget it because I will kidnap you or you rather change your name to something else.

Thank God there are better sites....cant waste my time here.

God bless you @Toluwase, Yakubu complained of not been fed with quality passes from midfield and in Angola, when coming face to face with the Wikki Tourist Beninoise goalkeeper could not score after been put through by Uche.

This same guy Yakubu'd the effort of Ayila who raced from central midfield to give him a pass that was not a shot. He has never won any individual award both at clubside or national team level. He was not even the highest goal scorer for the Eagles during the qualifiers. He does not know how to create chances or bring others to play in a game. Even James Crooden's mother scored the goal that Yakubu missed on BBC. Yet he would open his 'apa garri' mouth and say, I have always done my best for Nigeria. NO TROPHIES, NOT EVEN HIGHEST GOAL SCORER DURING NATIONS CUP QUALIFIERS OR NATIONS CUP. His goals are tap ins and could not even take us to the nations cup finals. WHAT A CRAP PLAYER. There is no match that his goals has given us victory. Others have to score more to give us victory.

He should be kidnapped. And all his jazz that makes Coaches select him failed him on the pitch. Is it really jazz or bullying the coaches albeit '' IF U DON'T PUT ME, I WILL NOT HONOUR YOUR INVITATION AGAIN.'' Anichebe or Emmanuel Sarki would have given us better confidence and breathtaking goals than the YAKUBU'D YAKUBU. HIS MEDIOCRITY WAS MADE KNOWN TO THE WHOLE WORLD. WHAT A SHAME.

As the abductors of Hajia Abdullahi Laraba, mother of the NFF’s former president, refuse to reduce the N200m ransom, members of the family have cried out for help, stressing that their hope is still hanging.

The worried members of the house, who spoke with DailySunSport revealed that the kidnappers had been in touch with them through telphone conversation and had assured us of the old woman’s safety but have refused to allow their mother speak to them.

This makes it difficult for them to believe what they were told by the kidnappers. “To tell you the truth, since Monday evening, we have found it difficult to sleep with our two eyes closed, as we are not sure of the whereabouts of our mother.

We are yet to get any break through. The worse is that these people have refused to see reason with us, instead they maintained that they were not going to let her go unless we handover the huge sum of money which is beyond our reach. But they have assured us that our mother is safe. All we are relying on now is to pray that God will touch their hearts. There is nothing difficult for God to do, and I see it as a trying time for our family and I see Him coming to our rescue”.

Now, it is two days and still counting since Hajia Laraba was kidnapped from her home in Idah in Kogi State on her way back from office.

Kickoff, for the love of the game, dig deeper!
We need more news!

coache: 2010-07-16 12:42

Let me also add, the English league where there are crap goal keepers like Green would soon confuse people when he starts scoring goals against such mediocre goal keepers. Did you see that Fabregas missed a 1 on 1 with Skeleburg in SA? Even Arjen against Casillas. Those are quality goalies. Was Fab to be 1 on 1 with an EPL goalkeeper, he would have scored and would be called all kind of names. Newspapers would have called him Fabulous Fabregas.

Is the English league doing more harm than good to the SE? Have your say

I sincerely hope Collin Udoh is alive and well. Maybe you guys did not notice, but the 'cut and paste' story above did not even bear his signature. It reads "Mzansi football and Kickoff"

EnyiAwka 1: 2010-07-16 12:47

Mr. Collins Udoh is enjoying his marrital bliss with his football wife (mercy Akide) in the USA and would not want to be disturbed.

There is no internet or Phone facility were they are, so dont bother about communicating with him.

He also asked me to inform the kickoff Board to look for more efficient editor that will replace him cos the job has overwhelmed him. So he is happy eating what the wife makes from football.

Taiwo is a good player. AM is not a bad club . i could have prefered he come to EPL. Best of luck Ismaila.

if siaisa become SE coach and invite yakubu then his jaz don catch him also, no more hope for Nigeria.

Kerewa: 2010-07-16 16:03

@The Word, pls dont mention that name EPL again. What that league produces are just crappy players. That league has not helped our players at all. Just take ur census and tell me any player that came out from there thats world class??? from mikel to the last man yakubu. I am no longer praying for any of our players to be there except fro retirement. Taiwo should be looking at spain where he can meet very crafty and intelligent players. That place will make him a better player and EPL where things are only on the pages of newspaper

Hi Guys, i guest created a sports blog "http://nigeriansports.blogspot.com"

We can all paste or write stories and comment on them. Let me know if you guys have interest in this.

Ken Gadaffi, Billion et al... we can all get stories from different websites and share our various ever varying views.

The word.: 2010-07-16 18:02

@dozie, i understand what you are trying to say. But the reason why i said Taiwo could have come to EPL is because of way playing. His very fast and strong. ok, what about Silva that just moved to City from spain? i think depend on the team you play for, EPL is not bad. Look at Fulham got to the final of Europa cup last season. Mikel is not doing badly at Chelsea. who knows he might not have gotten to this level if he had move to spain, italy or germany?

@tEMITOPE, that is a good idea, i will check it out. We need to start thinking of another place from KO.

CountDown to Siasia's Enthronement : NFF, Learn from LULUHOOD'S
He celebrated the ouster of the U-20 team in Egypt, collaborated with Thief Ogunjobi etc to meander with over two hundred thousand dollars, dragged state executives to SA so as to be re-elected. Some of the state Chairmen after double checking with their 'Urim' and 'Thurim' aka babalawo or marabouts decided to abandon the Eagles knowing fully well that the Super Chickens or Witchcraft Chicken's would fail against the shorty Koreans. I used the word Witchcraft Chicken's or Witchcraft Eagles (WE) without any regard for whose ox is goad because, for the past three years, we have resigned to praying that the other team looses and pray that we win. Each competition had been bedevilled with passionate fans wishing the other team loose their match for us to qualify.

He failed to appoint Siasia as Coach of the SE for fear that siaone is loved by the press and had an excellent spirit. The scenario can be likened to having Kanu an intelligent player in the hole with the CRAP Yakubu as point man. It can never work and never did work. He removed the ancient landmark albeit Nigeria is used to playing games on Saturday but he changed it to Sunday saying, people come to watch matches more on sundays forgetting that the SE is not an Abuja team and fans would travel from far and near to come and watch their Eagles. TO show how crude and how archaic him and his hench man Ojo-Oba are, can you imagine someone who is watching Inter versus AC Milan or Barcelona versus Sevilla on a saturday or their darling ****nal, leaving their TV to go and watch Yakubu versus Mozambique or WE versus Kenya? It cannot happen. Instead of watching WE coached by Amodu, they would prefer to watch Messi, Xavi and Iniesta et al or worst still STOKE VERSUS WEST BROM. That was the lowest ebb that LULUHOOD'S reduced our football to.

I know the Lagos fans, whether it is Togo or Kenya, the stadium would be packed full to cheer their team. Even in Abuja, fans can still leave the EPL matches to watch quality African oppositions on Saturdays. But the man was thinking of how much he would make so as to be able to pay 'tithe' to Amos Adamu. That said, after such a lack of confident team performance in SA, I expect LoosingBeer to go and Siasia installed to man the position he meritted. But that is if the new board will toe the line of excellence and give the crown to whom it belongs. Suffice to say that in the days of Westerhof, players like Makinwa, Olofinjana and Yakubu would not have reached the stage in which they caused us international disgrace before they were butted out of the WE.

Loosingback had to wait for European bench warmers instead of starting with much more fitter NPL players. To the entire SE pundits and forumites, some of whom lost money to betting that their darling team would win at the mundial, DU COURAGE AND WAIT PATIENTLY WHILE SIASIA IS ENTHRONED.

ken gadaffi: 2010-07-16 18:18

Thank God KON has brought something new here even if its no longer news.
Hope they wake up.

Whilst Collin Udoh and KOn were AWOL, i took some time to watch the three matches Nigeria played at the world cup. Under a much relaxed mood, i was able to take a close look at the technical and tactical approach of the team and i can say vividly that the Super eagles played well in all three matches. However, I think those who felt the super eagles improved under Largerback may have said so from the sentiment that they simply believed that Lats will bring a new life into the team. Frankly speaking, there was no changes from the team that played in Angola. Infact they played virtually the same style and I am not surprised because nearly all the players were part of the Angola team.

Having said that and watched the game over and over again, I feel that we could have done better if not for the missed chances. In the three matches, the super eagles were not outplayed, but they were outscored. Had we converted some of our missed chances the story would have been different. I really dont see much gap between our team and any of the four teams that made it to the semi finals. My greatest regret thus is that we missed a golden chance to reach the semis on african soil. I really dont know when such a chance would avail itself again.

Well, as it is now, I am glad that the NFF is being reorganized and hopefully our football will be rebuilt. We have to learn not to fire coaches so close to a major tournament. We have to learn to start preparation early, and We have to learn to support our team even when things go bad. If this three principles are adhered to, I don't see why we cannot get back to the golden days again.

I wish the Interim NFF good luck and hope they can reshape things pretty soon.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

Cash-strapped Portsmouth have slapped a staggering eight million pounds on Nigeria international striker John Utaka.

The career of Nigeria international Stephen Ayodele Makinwa is hanging on a thread after his new Greek club Larissa discovered that he may be suffering from a knee injury which could well end his career.

Ugonna: 2010-07-17 00:36

@Ken Gadaffi
I also watched the match too in a relaxed mind and i think the Super Eagles did not play badly as we watched them under tension. Honestly speaking they really played well except there match against Greece. I Think luck was not just on there side

ken gadaffi: 2010-07-17 02:31

@ugonna, football is not only about skills, tactics or technicalities. You need a lot of Luck too. Perhaps nearly 40% luck to succeed just like in other spheres of Life. Some have been tempted to say our world cup failure was as a result of NEMESIS, I believe so too looking at the way things turned out, but then, as long we the NFF does not learn to do the right thing at the right time, then even luck will desert them.

EFCC seizes Lulu’s travel documents
Friday, 16 July 2010 00:00

International passports of the four former top Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials under probe for allegedly squandering N1.3billion have been confiscated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Operatives seized the travel documents of ex-NFF President Sani Lulu and three other executives- Taiwo Ogunjobi, Uchegbulam Amanze and Bolaji OjoOba after they were interrogated to verify their complicity in the various allegations of fraud.
Daily Trust learnt that all four who were summoned by EFCC honoured the invitation of the Commission and made official statements regarding the case.

A source said their passports were seized to foil possible plans of fleeing the country should it be attempted.
They were quizzed based on fresh revelations in the case after operatives perused through documents recovered from the Glass House in a raid.
EFCC’s spokesman Femi Babafemi confirmed Lulu and others had been quizzed and the Commission was in possession of their travel papers.
The anti-graft agency is trying to substantiate allegations that the team incurred a fine of $125,000 in South Africa over a deal with Hampshire Hotel because they were looking for a hotel below FIFA approved standard.

That they also allegedly mismanaged $250,000 to charter a faulty aircraft for the football team from London to South Africa and sponsored over 300 people who were not Supporters Club, including Personal Assistant to the General Secretary, a judge and members of Catering Committee.
Other allegations against the sacked officials include alleged diversion and misappropriation of the following monies- $5million grant from FIFA, CAF and other donors, another $1.2million grant from FIFA and N96million on purchase of buses for the use of NFF.

They are also under investigation for allegedly spending $400,000 for a hidden friendly match between Colombia and Nigeria on a practising pitch in London, releasing N34 million to NFF Electoral Committee to conduct an election to be attended by 44 delegates, disbursement of N185million bribe to state chairmen of Football Associations, sale of NFF Guest House in Wuse part of Abuja and failure to account for missing $236,000 from the Glass House till date.

why are we as a people so selfish and ignorant.Did we know that our u-20 women are killing themselves in germany, redeeming the image of this countries football that has been tanished by the mens team and they are been paid $500 for a win, $250 for a draw. My God how can this be and we pay the useless mens team $30,000 for a win which they didnt even accomplish in SA, what a country of injustice. Untill we stop rewarding mediocre and embrace hard work, truthfullness and honesty, all this NFF talking is bull****, as far as i am concerned the super eagles are not the best national side in nigeria. Our u-17, u-20, u-23 both men and women have done the nation proud than the senior mens team. The super eagles has been riding on the backs of our junior teams since the 80's and it time we reward those that are due. .why is nobody commenting here, on this issue. Do we all now feel like this is not our busUNIESS, why? because it does not affect us , or draw, or break our hearts like the mens, right. Typical of us if it does bother me then its not my business, so we sit back and watch our country women treated unfairly. I will preach this in all nigerian sports websites and to u nigerian jounalist and soccer loving nigeria, u guy are all a failure. for your ifo.. they beat japan today and drew england previously
