South Africans Bevan Fransman and Cheyne Fowler suffered contrasting fortunes in their UEFA Champions League qualifiers in midweek.
Fowler, who plays for HJK Helsinki in Finland, saw his side lose 1-0 in their first round, first leg, encounter away at Lithuanian side Ekranas in a game that was close to being called-off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Fowler came on in the 76th minute, but could not help his side find an equaliser, though they will be confident of overturning the deficit in the second leg at home next Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana international Bevan Fransman made his debut for new Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv, helping them to a thumping 5-0 home win in a qualifier against Bosnian side Zeljeznicar.
Fransman started on the bench, but came on in the second half as his side all-but booked their place in the next round, where they could face the likes of Ajax Amsterdam, Glasgow Celtic, Fenerbahce, Anderlecht and Zenit St Petersburg.
Should they overcome that hurdle they will face a final round of play-offs before gaining entry to the lucrative group stages.
Fransman moved to Israeli champions Hapoel from Maccabi Netanya, where he had spent two successful seasons, playing wither as a central defender or a defensive midfielder.
The 26-year-old missed out on the final 23-man Bafana Bafana World Cup squad, having been called-up as cover for the injured Morgan Gould in the preliminary squads.
