First Division side Black Leopards returned for their pre-season camp last week minus seven players who did duty for them last season.
Included in those who were absent were former regulars Mayasisilua ‘Nono’ Lubanzadio from DR Congo and the Malawian duo of Fischer Kondowe and Patrick Mtawali.
The club has decided against the renewing the contracts of Lubanzadio and Kondowe following the expiry of their deals at the end of June.
Leopards’ Sam Khaphathe says following their failure to win promotion, they let their international players leave and search for better opportunities elsewhere.
“The reality is that we failed to win promotion and so it doesn’t make sense to keep international players when they can possibly get better contracts elsewhere in the PSL.
“With regards to Nono, we had an option of renewing his contract but we felt it better to let him go. Patrick requested to be released and we obliged to his request. We are already working on getting equally capable replacements who have the desire to play in the First Division,” explains Khaphathe.
“Also released was central defender Kaizer Montsi who is already training with Santos, while goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali has been loaned out to Free State Stars.”
Junior Sekete also joins long-serving midfielder Christopher Netshidzivhe on the exit list at Leopards.
