Kermit Erasmus reunites with Gavin Hunt

Erasmus rejoins SuperSport United

Dutch club Feyenoord have released Kermit Erasmus back to SuperSport United ahead of the 2010/11 season.

Just two years into a three-year contract with Feyenoord, Erasmus will return to the club where he was groomed – seemingly vindicating Gavin Hunt’s view at the time of the move in 2008 that he would be better served by another season in the PSL.

In Erasmus’ first season with Feyenoord he spent the majority of the time in their reserve squad, only turning out four times for the first team.

Subsequently, he was loaned out to Feyenoord’s Rotterdam neighbours SBV Excelsior last season, where he had reasonable success in scoring 11 times in 30 matches.

Last month, when compatriot Kamohelo Mokotjo was recalled by Feyenoord from Excelsior and given Erasmus’ number 15 squad number, it seemed likely that he would remain with Excelsior, who were promoted to the Dutch top-flight.

However, Erasmus’s return to South Africa will undoubtedly now casts a shadow on the prospects of the 20-year-old, who just three years ago was named as one the ‘50 best teenagers in the world’ by World Soccer magazine and was also called up for the Bafana Bafana pre-World Cup camp in Brazil.

Despite Erasmus’ return home, the Dutch club will retain first refusal on the former Amajita international.

Erasmus’ agent, Ashley Kotzen, believes the decision will benefit his client in the long run.

“He had a good season at Excelsior, but tapered off towards the end. Also, with the minimum salary requirements for non-European players in Netherlands, it just didn’t make financial sense for them to keep him,” Kotzen tells KickOff.com.

“But this will work out well. SuperSport are delighted to have him back – Gavin Hunt knows him well and he is a product of the academy. And playing in the PSL will afford him the opportunity to get more game-time and work on his game, and also to get closer to the national team.”

I saw this lad play for South Africa in the under 20's world cup and i think he played so well in the tournament.How come nothing seems to work for South African players in terms of football?Wish him the best though!

KO, I hope you guys are not lying to us cause if this is one of those cover-up cases of ill discipline, then we are not going anywhere as a football nations. These ill disciplined players must learn and not be accepted in our football structures.

I’m not saying people can’t change, but if they can’t, then let them drown themselves. Don’t waste money that could be spent to groom other youngsters on rehab programs that does not bare good results

For future’s sake, I hope it’s not like that

Mr Agent, this boy is too good for play in MZANSI .Why can't you organise trial for him at Spain,France ,etc .it will also help him to develop in football and benefit BB as well.

This total lack of faith in youngsters is killing our soccer.The likes of Ghana had half the u20 team in the seniors while we always run for experience which does not yield the required results.Why isn't Erasmus,Jali,Ntshumayelo,Xulu,Serero and Claasen not in the senior team already?Where are they going to get experience if we do not field them?

I think its a good move for this young boy to come back home & plough his silky skills to our PSL here in Mzantsi. I see him being an excellent player for Sion.

Kermit’s return to the PSL is not good for him or the country and I blame his agent for his return to the country. The boy needs to be in Europe developing under tough environment where first team action is based purely on how hard one works rather than taking a coward’s move coming back to SA. Come 2014 we would be crying about lack of international experience or exposure for our players forgetting that they had ran away from challenges in Europe to rest on their laurels in the PSL knowing that their game was guaranteed. We need to export our best young talent to Europe for them to develop further and maybe reach their full potential. This is a rubbish move the sooner he returns to Europe the better for him and the country. When Steven Pienaar failed at Dortmund he did not catch the first available SAA flight out of Germany to rejoin Ajax Cape Town but his manager found him a deal with Everton, so why Kermit's manager did not do his job of finding this precious talent new employment in Europe?

This is mediocre you are celebrating my bru, SAfrican F/ball is no where bru, why Gaxa n all other players played in 2010 squad want move abroad, no reason for this boy to come back where he wont play in African Champs Lig or Cup Winners cup see Mphela how poor he is cause he is nt expose in world f/ball, look at Suarez are these players the same, think bru , this guy was a pillar for 2014 , if things go like this lets forget about Brasil. This guy should have been advised to try Xspo Super Lig or Portugal

I have to agree with Heous, something is wrong with development of our footballers,why are they failing? do they have the right temperamental? we need high expertise to look into development of our footballers.i hope he has a good season and next year he maybe goes to a lesser league like Greece or belgium otherwise he will never realise his potential if he stays in SA

This is the boy who could do great things for Bafana Bafana...he should be given game time alongside George Maluleka of Ajax..but i think they should be fielded along side Benni and not Mpela coz Mpela wants self pride.More youngsters from the under 20 which participated at the world cup should be given a chance at this coming CAf AFCON qualifiers.
