Forlan named World Cup's best

Uruguay forward Diego Forlan has been named the 2010 Fifa’s World Cup’s Player of the Tournament.

The Atletico Madrid player garnered 23.4 percent of the votes to pick up the Golden Ball award ahead of Wesley Sneijder (21.8 percent) of Netherlands and Spain’s David Villa (16.9 percent).

Young German striker Thomas Mueller walked away with two awards – the Golden Shoe and Best Young Player.

He was one of four players to end on five goals, but beat off Villa, Sneijder and Forlan for the top scorer award by virtue of having more assists.

Spain captain Iker Casillas won the Golden Glove award, while Spain won the Fair Play award.

There is only one Diego Forlan. He carried Uruagy through. He is the best. Well done South Africa. I am proud to carry the South Africa I.D. I am very proud. I love South African people. Your behaviour was the best. Well done. It should only be Spain.

Mueller and Forlan deserve their respective awards but I thought Mesut Oezil (German midfield maestro) will scoop the young player award. Anyways congratulations are in order guys.

There's no better gift South Africa could present to AFRICA than this Show. "Thank you, South Africa!"
As to countries (like LESOTHO) who sat on their laurels and did NOTHING to benefit directly from the WC show, RSA couldn't help.

All the Awards have been justified. FORLAN worked for his country despite ordinary mates.
Spain played clean football.
Sure, Germans deserved something, and any critiria to use to give them anything would be acceptable. This one is fair!
Ghana mustn't cry too much, the final game showed "Even the best players have limits!"
I don't think I would ever attended any World Cup in my life - "Thank you, South Africa!"

Teko Modise?
They don't give most disapointing player awards.
But I am not sure if Modise could even win that! Wayne Rooney would be my favorite for that trophy.

although the country did well organising the world cup, lets not forget we have baboons running our football, grass will grow in this beautifull stadias, in and outside. dagga smokers will take their rightfull places, and since they have seen their role model, Paris Hilton pumping a zoll, they will take over from her, holiganism will go back to the stands again, we will be scared to take our kidz as we have done during the world cup, becuase of the inability of the security forces to excersice their duties! hope this SAFA honchos can put their house in order, and the police continue as if there is still a world cup, we really felt safe for four weeks!

Forlan, you deserve it, you tought our young stars, what it means to represant your country, you die on the field for your national colour! glad the likes of Teko, Gaxa and Mokoena may not be seen wearing our national clolours!

@Lungelo: Oezil has been my outstanding player as well. i enjoyed watching him play since the 1st game Sadly though, he doesn't qualify for nomination because of his age.
I wish i could see the score card that gave the guys their percentages for their positions. Otherwise, i'm super delighted, super impressed, super proud & SA is a Special Place with Special People(am also one of them_hahahahaha)
