Netherlands' Dirk Kuyt: Not fear

Kuyt: We will not play with fear

Posted: 2010-07-09 07:20

Netherlands striker Dirk Kuyt is confident that his team will not play with fear against Spain in the World Cup final like Germany did in the semi-finals.

The Liverpool striker thinks that Germany was scared of the reigning champions of Europe and believes that the Dutch can bring out the weaknesses of Spain's team in the final.

The Netherlands will enter the final with a 25 match unbeaten streak which includes 14 consecutive win, and Kuyt insists that the Dutch do not fear the Spaniards.

"We are not afraid at all," Kuyt told The Guardian.

"You could see the Germans were afraid of Spain. They didn't try to attack. We are going to attack and then you will see weaknesses coming to the surface.

"If you play like the Germans you are definitely going to lose.

"We don't have players who are afraid and we don't have players who feel small against the big opponents. There is respect, but not fear."

Kuyt praised the Netherland's belief in this World Cup, especially when they faced a 1-0 deficit against Brazil in the last eight, and the Reds star hopes to avenge the final defeats of 1974 and 1978 on Sunday.

"Dutch football is always very strong and, in every tournament we play, we show we have quality.

"But, in this tournament, we have shown we have more than just quality. We also have belief. We believe we can beat every opponent in front of us. We have the patience to do that. Against Brazil we were 1-0 down, but we still had the conviction that we could win.

"Against Uruguay in the semi-final they equalised and, in tournaments in the past, we would have gone on to lose it from that point.

"But this time we stayed focused. We believed in our own qualities. We kept our positions and, in the second half, were the only side that deserved to win."

Definitely one of the guys to look out for in the Oranje's shirts. He's not often talked about or gracing the cover pages of some prints but believe me he's one of the best amongst the current generation of football players - I'm referring to to Kuyt.

Whoever wrote Spaniards off against Germany is either they dont understand soccer or they had not watched Spain play before as they have been a marvel to watch for every game they have played in this SWC - just like the Germans.

Sunday's final is gonna be a HELL of a game and, although i'm going with Spaniards, it could very much go either way. Certainly looking forward to it.

This one is going to be big. We South Africans tend to support teams based on their last game performance, hence so many people thought Germany were going walk all over Spain.

You don't need 11 Ronaldos to beat a team of Super Stars like Spain (ask Switzerland). Holland is a very strong and very experienced (unlike Germany)team. They have a very strong defense just like that of Germany but have composed players that can dictate the game when necessary.

I can promise you one thing, Spain is not going to dominate The Netherlands in the same manner they did to Germany. Having said that, Spain will really fancy their chances going into this game.

Final Score: Spain 1 - 1 Netherlands (Spain 3 - 4 Netherlands after penalties).

Don't forget the Arjen Robben factor, unlike Messi, no team has managed to close him down not even the Maurinho's Inter Milan.

Once a Happy Person Always a Happy Ghost.

Seconded lapho Toad I think Robben will force Spain to think twice about attacking blindly and leaving their back four exposed because he can cause havoc if left unchecked.

But then you go on to say???????Once a Happy Person Always a Happy Ghost. Lol!

That's hilarious! Why would a once happy person want to be associated with ghosts! lol!.....It should atleast be Once a happy person always a Sono....no person! lol! Isono phela lesi!
