A 23-year old Italian man who ran onto the pitch during the World Cup semi-final between Spain and Germany in Durban last night is expected to appear in the city’s World Cup court this morning.
The fan, wearing a Superman T-shirt and carrying a Vuvuzela, dashed onto the field in the opening minutes of the game.
He stood for a moment in the middle of the field looking stunned, before police wrestled him off the pitch. Police say he faces charges of trespassing. Spain won the semi-final 1-0 knocking Germany out of the World Cup with a 73rd minute goal.
Meanwhile, according to a report on Sabc, disappointed Germans are planning to ask Paul the uncanny octopus who will win Sunday’s World Cup final between the Netherlands and Spain - just to see if the psychic sea creature can get it right again when Germany is not playing.
Paul correctly predicted Germany's defeat in last night's World Cup semi-final against Spain, as well as Germany's earlier four victories and loss to Serbia.
The Sea Life Aquarium in Oberhausen offers Paul mussels in two glass tanks marked with the flags of the countries involved and checks which tank he eats from.
Spanish and Dutch fans will be closely watching the next verdict from the octopus oracle.
