'Better team won, not better players'

German captain Phillip Lahm has taken a dig at Argentina following their 4-0 dismantling of the South Americans, saying that the ‘better team won, not the better players’.
Much was made of this quarterfinal encounter in Cape Town between two tournament favourites, with many predicting that Argentina would go through given the talents of Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez.
However, Germany were their ruthless efficient self, with goals from Thomas Mueller, Arne Friedrich and a brace from Miroslav Klose doing the trick.
“We beat England and now Argentina, a favourite team for the World Cup,” Lahm told KickOff.com after the match. “We have a big team, a good team, and you can see today that the better team won, not the better players.”
Klose was again on target on the occasion of his 100th match for the national team, but he was more worried about the team performance than individual glory.
“I am happy to have won tonight. As a team we did well. Argentina are a good team, so more than anything I am just happy that we are closer to the final,” he told KickOff.com.
The brace took Klose’s World Cup tally to 14, one behind Ronaldo’s all-time record. So can he beat the brilliant Brazilian to the mark?
“I really don’t know. For me, if the team plays well, that is good. This is all I am worried about and today we played very positive.”
