Supersport Utd to replace Heartland

South African champions SuperSport United will replace Heartland in the CAF Champions League if Nigeria get banned from international football as a result of the government's withdrawal of the national team from international competition.

Sources at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are hoping that a resolution to the crisis can be reached, but KickOffNigeria.com understands that if that does not happen, then the continental body will throw Nigeria out, from all of its competitions.

In that case, SuperSport United, who were beaten over two legs by the Owerri club, will take their place in the group stages of the competition.

Heartland have been grouped with former champions Al Ahly, Ismaily and JS Kabylie and are scheduled to begin their campaign with a home game against Ahly on July 18.

How disingenuous of Jonathan and his advisers to destroy our football because they want to fix it. Why should heartland suffer for Super Eagles failures? why should our U-17 and U-21 suffer? it makes no sense at all.

@Bibby, why can't you for once respond to the story and leave south africans to celebrate the good fortune?
Must you always provoke these guys!

I fear for una.
Oh for the love of the game, hope the presido reconsiders!

I was shot down many times here for going on about age-cheating, corruption etc. and how we should deal with it. This has happened because our society is so rotten that people in Nigeria can't see it. No one here would acknowledge there was an age cheating or corruption problem........How right I was when I stated Nigeria would crash at the World Cup due to the above mentioned.
How can a player who is 42 still be playing for the Eagles? I refer to Kanu.

mapete: 2010-07-01 22:34

come kickoff why you are giving your readers wrong information that poor reporting from kickoff, the President banned all National teams so is Heartland a national team can some from kickoff answer me its your wish for Supersport to qualify to the mini league through back door, the ban is not affecting clubs but National teams, next time do your researches first before you publish falsehoods.

eze: 2010-07-01 22:54

@EMEKA........if at all thats what your name is then you are a GOAT.

Abdulaziz: 2010-07-02 01:50

@Mapete its true. Once FIFA ban a country caue of govt interference then all international entities representing that country also become affected. In this case since Heartland are competing in the CAF champions league and CAF is an affiliate of FIFA then the ban applies to them. But fear not cos it wont come to that. I believe things will be resolved in due course.

@Freeman thank you my brother. I see no need of us(Africans) fighting really. As a South African i sympathise with you guys especially when you as a nation have to suffer consequences as a result of a few greedy indivuals in NFF.

Nigerian government should think very well. I dont think withdrawing for two years will do us any good. It will waste a whole generation of players. A very good example was in 1996 when Abacha withdrew Nigeria from participating in Nation's cup. Even Samson Siasia offered to play with bullet proof on his jersey to assure Abacha of their safety. The two years means a lot. There will be no action for the national teams for the two years, Nigeria will have been out of 2014 W/cup because the initial draw for the preliminaries would have been held by then just as countries that 'll be drawn bye would have been named. There will be no nation's cup in 2012 and 2013. There will be no competitiveness in our local league for the 2 years since the winner will not be taking part in any continental engagement. The FA cup which is gradually regaining its lost glory will go back to the doldrum. Who are we going to catch young? the youths that know that there will not be any competition for the next two years? Would there be any new discovery by big European clubs from Nigeria? Above all, are we sure of the personality of our FA after the two years? WE have all been shouting about the politics in Nigeria for decades without improvement, are we sure there will be improvement in the NFF after the two years? But in the same vein, Would Blatter continue to have an employee in FIFA headquarters who kept over $200,000 in his drawer and declare it missing? So many questions!!! I think that rather than Government taking this type of decision which might not augur well for the future of our football, why cant we NIgerians rise up and face the Glass house and chase all the charlatans away just like the SNG are holding rallys which had succeeded in chasing Iwu away? I think the we can do it and we can achieve it, but the government should rescind its decision and let our girls go for the tournament they had laboured to qualify for. Let heartland progress in the tournament they had la boured to qualify for before we loose this generation of players.

Damn the freek called FIFA Leadership. They are nothing but bunches of opportunist dictators, only interested in building wealth for themselves out of pple without any consideration for the fans feeling. Countries are sovereign nations and the bafoons at FIFA thinks they can build business empires in our lands, financed by our resources without ... See Moreprotection of our interest. That's not acceptable. If the ****heads at FIFA wants to get hold of all FAs, then they should be ready to privatise FIFA and pay for all activities they run in sovereign countries. Blater should ****off, this country, Nigeria and its people are not a chicken hearted country like his, Swizerland. We are ready for FIFA in this country if they insist of protecting the gangs of brigands at the glass house led by LULU and OGUNJOBI. Damn FIFA, Damn CAF and to hell with Blater. As for SS united, good luck for them. It's a common saying that one kings misfutune is another common mans way to the kingship throne. But don't disappoint us with failing to go beyond this round. As you know Nigerian teams have been performing wonderfully well in the compitition in the last ten years while south african teams never did well over thesame time.
