Figo lashes out at Ronaldo's behaviour

Portugal legend Luis Figo has joined the debate on the criticism directed at coach Carlos Queiroz by Cristiano Ronaldo following their World Cup elimination by declaring that the Real Madrid star did not behave like a true captain.

An incensed Ronaldo told reporters to "ask Carlos Queiroz" why Portugal were knocked out of the tournament by Spain in the immediate aftermath of the round of 16 tie in Cape Town. Despite trying to go back on those comments, his statement has drawn criticism from his former mentor.

Figo, who captained the Seleccao to a semi-final place at the last World Cup in Germany in a record-breaking 127 cap international career said when times are tough, a captain should defend the group.

"My notion of what a captain is maybe different from other people, but a captain, regardless of the success or failure always has to defend the group. In hard times he should face the consequences for the group," Figo declared, as quoted by Marca

CR7 should concentrate on playing football and stop holding on to the ball for long. the world cup is not club football.he has to take up the role of the captain and swallow whatever bitter pill it comes with.

Carlos Quiroz made some baffling substitutions in the match against Spain and Portugal's whole approach to that game was baffling as well. Figo spent the whole 2002 World Cup diving so he should be the last one to be pointing fingures at anyone.
