Cesare Prandelli has signed his four-year deal with Italy and will be unveiled on Thursday at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, but Luciano Moggi has questioned whether he can restore face.
Calciomercato.com reports Prandelli signed his deal at the Federation’s headquarters in Rome on Wednesday in the presence of FA president Giancarlo Abete and vice-president Demetrio Albertini.
He will coach Italy until 2014 when the World Cup is staged in Brazil, but his first aim will be to rejig the bunch of flops that crashed out of South Africa in the first round and help the Azzurri qualify for Euro 2012.
However, former Juventus director Moggi has questioned whether Prandelli is the man with qualities sufficient for the Azzurri purpose.
Moggi told Radio Toscana: “Prandelli? Italy needs a selector more than a coach. Therefore it will be a difficult job for him. If he doesn't have the players, there aren't many around with quality in Italy at the moment, then it will also be a dark night for him too.”
