Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan suspends the national team

No Super Eagles for two years

Posted: 2010-06-30 16:54

The Nigerian national team has been withdrawn from all football for the next two years by the country’s president, Goodluck Jonathan.

This follows the Super Eagles’ first round elimination at the 2010 World Cup, where they failed to win a single match and managed just a solitary draw against Korea Republic.

Jonathan’s decision is based on the finding of a presidential taskforce set up to investigate the failures of the team.

The taskforce’s chairman, Rotimi Amechi, confirmed the move – which is yet to be officially conveyed to Fifa – saying it was to ensure “the embarrassing outcome of the World Cup in South Africa won’t repeat itself”.

“We had all sorts of maladministration. We found out that the problem with Nigerian football is structural. The nation has been punished enough. People have had heart attacks because of Nigerian football.”

Just where that leaves Lars Lagerback, the Swedish coach who was recently offered a new four-year deal, remains to be seen.

Benson: 2010-06-30 17:05

This is the greatest and soundest move ever made. Since Westahoff showed us greatness in football idiots and greedy persons have been feeding their pockets and ignoring the feelings of vast majority of our football fans. Thank you Mr President. Fifa must respect our wishes because the government pay a lot of tax payers money to keep these football team

delodun: 2010-06-30 17:05

For the first time in my life, i have seen the Nigerian Government make a reasonable decision. At least we can get rid of this lousy generation of players, useless NFF people and Dogmatic Sports ministry. The next decision is to sack LULU and Jail all NFF People

nelson: 2010-06-30 17:07

this is a very positive in a good directon towards this useless eagles they called super eagles. just imagine other ****ries playing in this world cup they are playing as if thier life depends solely on it and a a result of that you enjoy every match you watch. look at our super eagles anytime you are watching them playing you are not at rest at all until the end of the match. i am ardent follower of soccer, super eagles had really cost me much to the extent that when we are loosing i transfer the agrression to my wife or children. i think dissolving the eagles only will not solve the problem but also those pple at the glass house should all go with them and let us reconstitute the glass house and the super eagles for the future. why not employ SIASIA to take our next super eagles to the promise land and forget this foreighn coach palava. i hope the president will be involved in the re-organising the super eagles enof is enof.

John (Geneva): 2010-06-30 17:09

This is really not funny. KON you have to stop this kind of silly jokes

KidKudu7: 2010-06-30 17:19

Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan is the most stupid idiot that ever exists on earth. How come you do such a barbaric act to a team. Sies maan, you sucks!!!

John (Geneva): 2010-06-30 17:20

The story is true ooo. Its on BBC. Na waa oo for Naija ooo

KidKudu7: 2010-06-30 17:20

This is totally ridiculous...shame POOR NIGERIANS!!!

John (Geneva): 2010-06-30 17:22

The story was apparently announced by Special presidential adviser Ima Niboro.

Ohh my gohhhhhhh

KidKudu7: 2010-06-30 17:23

The story is real & true, check BBC, those that have colonised minds and dont trust Kickoff.

Aag shame the poor Nigerian President is clueless and biased as usual!!!

KidKudu7: 2010-06-30 17:25

Peter Nathaniel's comments:

I think i agree with mr president's action on super eagles, its necessary and this is the right time to realy sanitise the nigerian national team. thank u mr president.

Olumide: 2010-06-30 17:25

Walahi this is a great move, although it might bring some self inflicted injuries along the line as we may get more bans from Fifa and Caf, but I think it is a better and faster way to avoid all the intrigue and time wasting that might come to play in the process of clearing the NFF augean stables, and reorganising our soccer, let us call Fifa;s bluff, we need to get those crooks out at any cost, and besides I dont think Mr President is going to keep that ban for more 3 months, it is just shakara, MAKE DEM FEAR SAY WE KNOW FEAR; make Fifa hog know where to scratch im bodi.

Segun: 2010-06-30 17:26

As crazy as the idea is, I guess the president was pushed to the wall. There are reports that Sani Lulu is the sole candidate for the chairmanship position in the upcoming NFF election and he has the backing of FIFA on the election guideline. My only concern is that can we play friendly matches during this period of withdrawal? If not, how do we build the new national team?

KidKudu7: 2010-06-30 17:27

@ delodun

Wow, that's interesting from you guys. So you prefare not to see your team in the next 2 years. Hooo, hooo, merry christmas to you guys!!!

zinzon: 2010-06-30 17:28

Not sure what to make of this. At first glance, it looks a positive move but look beyond that a bit, it raises all manner of issues...the most important is that strategically it means that control rests with FIFA...that is, Nigeria still needs to wait for its reaction. Bearing in mind that the most reactionary Nigerian football official was allowed to embed himself within it, I am pretty sure FIFA would look after its own and visit Nigeria its most draconian punishment...it is some sort of Mafia, this FIFA.

No, I think the solution is best to apply Nigeria's crimminal laws on NFF executive members found to have breached its laws and take them out of circulation...i.e. the Ibori formula whilst allowing NFF get on with its election. I just feel the best strategy is one that bypasses FIFA's action or reaction. What do you guys feel?

KidKudu7: 2010-06-30 17:30

If Nigeria is suspended to play compentitive games for 2 years, how do you build the new national team then?

Maybe playing Afghanistan or Pakistan will help you to regroup to a strong team...Goodluck idiots.

Sley: 2010-06-30 17:30

very good. Lets start afresh. Even if FIFA ban us we don't have any regret. We shall see which post Lulu& co would via for

KidKudu7: 2010-06-30 17:32

If Nigeria is suspended to play compentitive games for 2 years, how do you build the new national team then?

John (Geneva): 2010-06-30 17:32

What have we done wrong to God oooo! I think I'm going to pass out. This is totally unexpected. 2 years is long time. Would this not be considered as governement interferance by FIFA? Anyways what can FIFA do? ban us? Not funny at all................

long : 2010-06-30 17:33

now this. rather ironic, isn't it.our successive governments have milked us dry, failed to provide basic infrastructural needs; power, road, health care etc and we the electorate have not suspended them for even one day,. kidnapping armed robbery, looting of pubic funds go on with impunity, and the Nigerian people have not suspended the government? our legislators are more inclined to the martial arts than their primary role of law making, and only those who attempt to rock the juicy boat are suspended? come on the president should concentrate on whether he wants to run for 2011, which for now preoccupies his mind. this is a daft decision arrived AT by a bunch of insincere people who have not delivered to the electorate in the first place. the domino effect is in play, poor governance, corruption in HIGH places has also affected our football, its a system failure. government should lead by example and not be holier than thou by singling out the team or the federation which is taking a cue FROM those above them. how dumb and insensitive.suspend the team interfere with the nff and incur fifa's wrath? who has been speaking to JONATHAN, HIS SECURITY MAN? OH BOY.

collins: 2010-06-30 17:34

the news is true, you can verify it on google news. Is never april or june fool. But i think this judgment is too harsh. Insted of disolving the eagles for two years. They should rather, reorganize everything from the foundation. Everybody knows corruption is in Glass house. but let's develop football from the grass root by bringing in young talented players. Let us see players moving from under 17 to 20 and to under 23 and to the senior team. football was like that before in nija, but suddenly it stopped. kanu and the likes played in under 17 and moves on before joining the super eagles. but today nothing like that is in super eagles. NFF need seriouse restructuring.may God help Our government.

goodluck : 2010-06-30 17:34

That's the wrong move in African soccer development. The pres must let soccer be soccer and be a politician

Garvey: 2010-06-30 17:35

I think forumites should put on their thinking cap before making comments. Can't u people read between the lines?

KidKudu7: 2010-06-30 17:35

Goodluck Jonathan...see you in 2012!!!

Bonga: 2010-06-30 17:37

POOR Naijas! All they know is to be drug dealers yet they claim to be far better than Bafana Bafana. Mamadou Gaye from Cote de Voire use to criticise the football administrators of Nigeria, now I see why. Let FIFA ban Nigeria for government interference as well. Goodluck Goodluck Jonathan in your mission.

Udeme: 2010-06-30 17:37

Does this man knows what he is doing? Under Fifa rules, government interference with national teams is strictly forbidden. We should expect something worst from FIFA.

KidKudu7: 2010-06-30 17:37

Shame, shame, shame...I give up now!!!

Lexy: 2010-06-30 17:38

When was this task-force set up? How come that the name of the guy giving us this information is not written.

I know that PTF mandate does not include this I really don't believe this piece of information. It lacks substance. I would not be surprised when kickoff will come out later to apologize.

olusegun: 2010-06-30 17:38

The good thing about this is, if and when a proper structure is put in place - the new constituted board will be aware that there is no Money to chop since there will be no Fifa competition for nigeria. Hence, they will most likely act selflessly if they wish to have their names written in gold to herald a new era

KidKudu7: 2010-06-30 17:41

I'll never go to Nigeria as long Goodluck Jonathan is still the president of that country.

John (Geneva): 2010-06-30 17:46

We cannot be banned by FIFA since we have already be banished by president 'not elected' Goodluck. Let us pray that he knows what he's doing. God help Naija.

Can somebody please deny that this story in BBC and KON is not true. I go die ooo.

Udeme: 2010-06-30 17:52

@Bonga, why don't you South Africans leave us alone. Whether you like it or not, the worst Nigerian team is better than the best bafana bafana team. We beat you guys home and away in the qualifiers. You guys have just made history by becoming the first worldcup host to be eliminated in the first round since the tournament started in 1930. This is what you should be worried about. All you guys know is to r.a.p.e. young girls/virgins believing that it can help to cure your HIV/AIDS. You guys even rape your children. I would rather be a drug dealer than rape my child. JUST LEAVE US ALONE.

God : 2010-06-30 17:54

Who cares this is no loss to football. Ghana are the real giants!!!
You keep calling me so I am here ...I bless you all!

John (Geneva): 2010-06-30 17:55

Mr President please do something about power supply, water supply, roads, security and education in Nigeria. I recommend that you banish all the people responsible for these sectors from Nigeria for life

EnyiAwka 1: 2010-06-30 17:55

I dont think withdrawing SE from the international scene is a good idea, How do we discover new players? There are better ways of dealing with the roth at the class house. The president should unleash EFCC and ICPC on lulu and co.

TAIWO: 2010-06-30 17:56

God bless Jonathan Goodluck,That 's a good think all of us,BYE BYE NFF!!!!!!!!!!!!BYE BYE LAGERBACK .Now, i can tell you my brothers,it's a new beginning an i'ts better like that,Peace out...

PS:@odichelsea, you can stop your petition now!!!

Austin: 2010-06-30 17:57

Mr. KON Editor, I wish to protest in the strongest terms possible the reference to President Goodluck Jonathan in less than dignifying terms by people are not qualified to be even his lackeys. Why should you permit the President of Nigeria to be so disrespected? Please, take charge of this forum and do not behave like one of those incompetent refs durig the WC. Mr. President may have voiced a sentiment, and he is entitled to his opinion, but there are rules to follow. And who made Amaechi the alternate NFF President? Are they not the same people that pressurized NFF to sack AModu and saddled us with a Lagerack that had nothing better to offer than the unfortunate Amodu? Why do they think that this is the way to go when we have on this forum made suggestions as to the best direction to take? When Abacha naively barred SE from participating in CAN in 96 and Nigeria was suspended from the '98 version, was that not the beginning of the end of the superiority of Nigeria's SE over other countries. A trophy that we would have won easily was "donated" to South Africa by that singular unwise decision. If we bar the SE for 2 years, how do you develop and test the team? In friendly matches? Please, don't make me laugh! Please PTF, NFF and Mr. President, that is not the way to go. Give Siasia the SE for 4-5 years and give him a free hand and we will see a new SE.

Austin: 2010-06-30 17:59

@Thabo, tell your country men to return the stolen WC trophy replica stolen from the temporary FIFA secretariat and then we can talk.

God : 2010-06-30 18:00

@Austin - what has this president done to be respected?

Austin: 2010-06-30 18:01

@Thabo, this is for your reference:

S-h-o-c-k-e-r! World Cup trophies stolen from FIFA’s office
2010 World Cup Special Jun 30, 2010 By Tony Ubani, in South Africa
Police in Johannesburg have confirmed replica World Cup trophies have been stolen from FIFA’s temporary headquarters.

Austin: 2010-06-30 18:02

@God, what he done to be disrespected for?

shola: 2010-06-30 18:02

I JUST PRAYED THAT THIS IS A STRATEGIC MOVE TO CLEAR THOSE THIEFS AND NOT JUST A DECISION MADE OUT OF ANGER.AND ALSO IF THE GOV. HAVE A PROOF OF FUND MISMANAGEMENT, WHY CAN'T THEY LET EFCC DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE.

Michael: 2010-06-30 18:04

Good DAY TO ANY OF YOU THAT CARES TO HEAR BECAUSE YOU HAVE CAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE HEART BREAK AND I DO BELIEVE IF WHAT IS WRITTEN ABOVE IS TRUE I MUST SAY IT SHOULD BE SO FOR US TO PUT OUR HEADS TOGETHER AND THINK ABOUT OUR SELF,NIGERIA ARE THE ONES KILLING THEM SELF FOR NOTHING, CAN ANY ONE TELL ME THE LAST TIME WE DO ANY THING THAT PEOPLE SAYS IS GOOD, THE COUNTRY IS GOING DOWN AND BAD EVERY DAY THOSE IN THE GLASS HOUSE THAT DO NOT KNOW ANY THING ABOUT FOOTBALL ARE BEING ELECTED TO HANDLE OUR FOOTBALL THEN TELL ME HOW IT WILL BE WELL FOR US WHEN A FARMER IS BEING ASKED TO COUCH THE TEAM, LOOK AT OUR PAST TEAM THE LIKES OF OKOCHA AND CO ARE NOT EVEN BEING HEARD WHEN THEY SAY ANY THING ABOUT FOOTBALL THEY ARE ALL AFTER THEIR POCKETS

John (Geneva): 2010-06-30 18:04

The SE are still very lucky that they were only disbanded. I feel sorry for the North Koreans players. I don't want to know what will happen to them when they get back home

jemma: 2010-06-30 18:06

KICKOFF PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!!

President Jonathan asked the present NFF board to VOLUNTARILY step down so as to avoid FIFA intervention, but Lulu and co. refused indirectly stating FIFA statutes forbid it. Jonathan then ORDERED them to step down. Knowing fully well that this will result in a 2yr FIFA ban, President Jonathan's advisors, have on his orders, gone ahead to announce the ban.

Njia4life: 2010-06-30 18:10

guys, what the hell is the problem, if the story is true, what bad in it, is it not time that we should tell ourselves the truth nor matter what, I wish the president all the best and lets see it will recover our good football

adebola: 2010-06-30 18:11

A very retrogressive action. We will be banned by CAF and FIFA from further competitions because of government interference. Abacha killed our football by refusing to participate in nations cup in south Africa in 1996 at the peak of our football and we were banned. After that we went downhill. There are better ways to handle things. I wish they could react like this to the lack of electricity and the suffering of Nigerians. for the first time i am disappointed in Jonathan Goodluck. I hope he reverses this stupidity

JMasterJ: 2010-06-30 18:14

Good decission Goodluck Jonathan....... Cameroon, CIV and SA should follow suit...

Michael: 2010-06-30 18:15

I want to say that if the president says that the country should be ban for all sport for two years i must go with him, this for us to save life of our people, no one knows the numbers of life that has passed away from 1998 to this 2010, so if we are to be ban by fifa for this please i will go with it until those farmers in that glass house that calls them self lulu and co are sent away from there, we have past footballers that should be put there to do what they know about football not giving unknown footballer chance to better him/her self

God : 2010-06-30 18:18

Stop calling on me to bless you....Enough of this God bless Nigeria....

ken gadaffi: 2010-06-30 18:20

This is not the way forward. Abacha did it in 1996 by not allowing the SE to go to south africa to defend the nations cup. Till today nigerian football is yet to recover. Even then we had a structure and strong team. Disbanding the team now is not the solutionn, please goodluck retrace your step.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

Udeme: 2010-06-30 18:22

@Thabo, what do you mean by saying that "Nigeria almost didn't make the qualification?" Don't forget that South Africa could not even qualify for the nations cup, and was beaten home and away by Nigeria in the qualifiers.

Fine: 2010-06-30 18:23

Thank you Mr. President.
I believe this is a good decision going forward. A lot has gone bad. Let this be a turning point for football organization in Nigeria. Let us pay attention in building a formidable team. There is need building our national league to meet the days demand, which will form the bedrock to produce Dream team, flying eagles then .... Enough time to vote in the right people to run football in this country. Enough time to audit the books of current manager of NFF. Enough time change the face of soccer in Nigeria.

ken gadaffi: 2010-06-30 18:26

I heard the govt has proposed to spend 10billion naira to celebrate our 50th independence. Whats there to celebrate? Now they want to kill our joy patapata. This is serious meeeen.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

Udeme: 2010-06-30 18:31

@Thabo, are you blaming Nigerians for the stolen replicas? You South Africans blame Nigerians for every bad thing going on in your country. Very soon you will start blaming us for apartheid.

mike: 2010-06-30 18:36

Is this not throwing the baby with the bath water away Mr. President. What do we stand to gain by this move?. The real problem is PTF a shadow foothball administration. Let NFF resign, and conduct new elections. For all you do please do not bring back this Lagerback of a coach.

Njia4life: 2010-06-30 18:36

@Thabo,,,joke apart if not the bad leadership in Nigeria don;t u know that Nigeria should be the Brazil of Africa.....but we can still make it.....God bless Nigeria

Billion: 2010-06-30 18:39

I am angry. After the Ban, all the NFF members should be arrested, probed and if found wanted - be sent to ganja!!

Lexy: 2010-06-30 18:39

This is a very bad decision. I think our President was ill-advised and should reconsider his stand. Nigeria is too big a nation to isolate herself from world football.

The President, like all Nigerians, is disappointed with the SE performance and much more disappointed with the corrupt NFF, but that is not enough. Our football system can be sanitized while we remain part and parcel of world football.

God bless you all

ayo: 2010-06-30 18:45

I just hope this is a joke. FIFA does not allow interference and our football will suffer immensely if we do not participate in global competitions for that duration. Yes we need to get our house in order but football is not where it should start.
I will advise Mr President to start with our education, health care, power generation, good clean water supply and definitely the rule of law.
I just wonder what these guys in government are smoking???

good decision! ban them for 4 years and when unbaned make kaita and adeleye the captain & vice captain respectively.

odiichelsea : 2010-06-30 19:03

i'm surprise that while other people are moving forward, we are going backwards. there are numerious examples of what FIFA does when government gets involved in football, yet someone is banning the national teams. which part of FIFA rules do they know? like most comments that keeps coming here that lacks logical and rational conclusion, people are celebrating a foolish decision made by someone who has not delivered his primary or secondary needs of the people

Gbenga: 2010-06-30 19:06

Some people are just flat out illiterate. a president/government has the right to determine who and when should represent its country. FIFA is not going to dictate to a country when there country should be represented in a tourney. It's not like we are boycotting any tournament we have already qualified for. "There is a fire in our roof which we need to put out before we can go out"

stdennis: 2010-06-30 19:07

GLORY BE 2GOD: I ve been havin sleepless nights bcos of NFA (not NFF) election. I ve been askin myself; does it mean no govt authority can stop this thiefs in glass house 4rm comin bak? Mr President should ve forced them all 2resign from d board 2day instead, bcos FIFA ll surely ban us. But it is beta 4us 2b banned dan continuing 2get heart attack from Eagles. Since I ve been followin Nigerian football in 94,no FA Chairman has ever returned.Under Late Omeruah,we won Tunisia 94,shone brilliantly at USA'94&also won Atlanta Olympic gold. Yet,he neva came back in 96.Amimu made us d first nation 2qualify 4 France 98 (wit a game 2go),yet never came bak for re election in 99.Also,Dominic Oneya qualified us 4 2002 world cup &Sydney 2000,but neva sought re-election in 2002. The one we thought was d worst chairman ever (Galadima)tried 2com bak by force, but was booted out. Now, d most useless chairman ever 2head Nigeria FA (lulu) has been disgraced out. PRAISE GOD. (DENNIS ADESANOYE).

Kingsley O.: 2010-06-30 19:20

France, italy, Nigeria and 13 other countries got eliminated from the first round of the world cup, other countries are either retaining their coaches to continue or signing on new ones for four year deals while Nigeria is busy banning the team for two years and some retards here are in support lol. Well y'all can keep moving backwards back there in Nigeria and as for me, I know i'm moving forward here LOL

Bona: 2010-06-30 19:28

This is killing a fly with a hammer. Please Mr President there are many ways to kill a rat, banning the team is not the best way forward. The problem is NFF, find a way and force those corrupt officials to resign. Nigerians love this game and can not afford to be out for two years.

ESHO: 2010-06-30 19:32

THAT MAN CALL JONATHAN NIGERIAN PRESIDENT IS CRAZYY.HOW CAN U BAND OVER 150MILION PEOPLE FROM FOOTBALL??HOW DO WE TEST NEW TALENT WHEN U HAD BEEN BAND..

stdennis: 2010-06-30 19:36

I know Jonathan ll definately rescind his 2yrs-decision. But, I ve preferred him forcin them 2resign enmass from the board 2day. That would ve called for early election &FIFA wont see that as interference. I ve seen many countries doing that, (even Ghana in d late 90s) without FIFA's complaint. Those who know much about int football laws in PTF should ve advised him 2do that instead. Also, lulu and co shouldnt go scot free, they should be jailed for life.

charles: 2010-06-30 19:36

In as much as I think this is good news, I do not see it happenning. If the Nigerian Government is suspending the Eagles for two years, will FIFA deem this as political interference if so then FIFA could ban Nigeria for a pretty long time say 5 years. I think the best way is to avoid FIFA confrontation and probe all members of the NFF. I am 100% certain with the EFCC after them they would all run and hide.

habib: 2010-06-30 19:47

POLITICS AND SPORTS DO NOT MIX

Please why do nija govt not educate themselves before they come out and make big statement. The president is banning the football team like banning a food and drink organisation in nija.

The president banning the team for 2 years is gonna make us world beaters its joke. its so funny, u think u on the AY show.

The president should concentrate on the administrative side of things and leave the football team alone.

Football is the only sport that bring joy to the people of nigeria, and the teams are all they have to look forward too. the preesident can contrate on the local leagues and even that is gonna take years.
WE CANT FIX THE PROBLEM IN 2 YEARS.

FIFA can also ban nigeria from all the other age group competition, which would affect the development of our football. wht the presido needs to do is to make sure the administrative side of football is more transparent and accountable, and any case of fraud is investigated properly.

You cant make the whole country suffer, jus because 23 players did not perform well. A look at england, the best league in the world, and they still did not perform well, u dnt see them banning the team for 10 years.

9ija politicians need to know what they can do and cannot do.

BANNING THE TEAM FOR 2 YEARS WOULD NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM OOOOOOOOOOO

CHUCK: 2010-06-30 19:57

Our problem is that we are never early,we don`t have system in all we do in Nigeria.Who ever that will coach our team should start from homebase players,Promote those that played under 17,Let stop deceiving ourself with experience. If am lying, why didn`t brazilian team come with Ronaldiho.Nigerians are problems of Nigeria.

ayo: 2010-06-30 20:00

I am really hoping that Mr Goodluck does not know anything of this news otherwise every respect I have for him goes down the toilet. There is the serious issue that daily confronts Nigerians that should be the primary focus and soccer is the one he wants to tackle? Our senators get N36 million every year and the Members of house of Reps are beating themselves silly and banning the SE is the cure? In all fairness, could we have gotten a worse result if Amodu had taken us to WC? Now we have wasted $1.5 million on Lagerback because he is a white man within 5 months and Mr Jonathan will solve soccer by banning SE? what will that achieve. I don't mind banning them forever but fix Nigeria.
We might try Cricket or Rugby or even Langa but importantly, FIX NIGERIA.

ayo: 2010-06-30 20:04

Mr President to be respected for a decision like this? Laughable.
I was actually giving the guy a chance until this one. I hope he repudiates the decision or denies having a hand in it to get back a modicum of respectability. I even hear he has a PHD.

psalmson : 2010-06-30 20:07

This is not the solution but a major setback to our football. Surely FIFA will surely add another two years to the ban, which will maki it four years. We will now start again from the scratch with four years wasted. By this time, Ghana football would have reached the peak and our just starting afresh. My suggestion is to do away with the over-fed, not committed Eagles and scout for the real eagles.

Olatunbosun: 2010-06-30 20:13

Uncle Joe, You got this all wrong. Someone should tell Mr President he is toeing the part of stone ages. We can risk long term ban like we did under Abacha. Cant the FGN constitute a panel and indict these fools in the glass house or othewise send EFCC after them. The case of missing $230k is enough.

Pls Mr president, dont loose out in Nigeria before you start. Gov. Fashola, please talk to Mr Goodluck.

Sley: 2010-06-30 20:20

@Austin, u spot on. Respect should be given to our dear President. His decision is final. Even though some folks might be affected but lets wait and see how beneficial it would be in the long run.
As for me, I support this decision. What have we achieved since winning Gold medal in Atlanta Olympics in 96? For the past 2 decade we have not shown any tangible progress with our National Team(Super Eagles). Let any player that is ready to wear the Jersey do so by Merit

Gbenga: 2010-06-30 20:27

some people here claim Government has no business in sports while they suggest same government should probe sport bodies (how ironic could one be?). There is more to what is going on in our football than see the eyes. Have you ever wondered why we all scream, shout and wail over the inclusion of some certain players and yet over and over again we keep seeing the faces of these particular players? NFF is like court/mafia. I want to tell you guys that only the interference of government can solve this problem. The same people that scream everyday on this forum for the head of members of NFF are the same people opposing the move by the government. Our football administration has completely gone of of hands. If the government of Nigeria, the country that NFF stand for can't stand in the gap in a situation like this, I wonder what government can do? Have you ever asked yourself why Lulu is the only candidate for NFF chairman election? Have you ever ask yourself why we keep seeing the face of Ogunjobi over and over again, ignoring the concern/wish of Nigerians? Honestly, if drastic measures like this are not taken, Nigeria may never see the good side of soccer again in our country. The government has critically evaluated its jurisdiction and the only thing they can hide behind is to say nobody should represent the name of Federal republic of Nigeria under the guise of sport/football. Fans I know it might be tough, but let endure the pain for a while, I know it's not going to last two years, but while it lasts, let's all have common enemy which is the NFF. The problem facing our football is different from that of France and England. Some cabals are out there to destroy our language (football). Let us put up every bit of resistance we can come up with. More are we than they are

oscar : 2010-06-30 20:42

I do not support this decision. This is my response to the announcement. You can read the full story on my blog:

http://oasking.blogspot.com/2010/06/can-wrong-decision-correct-nigerias.html

The way forward:

1. Disband the National Senior team immediately.

2. Call for a new NFF election, as disbanding NFF might incur the wrath of FIFA. Set up the body to conduct the election with strict guidelines so that corrupt individuals do not return to manage Nigerian football.

3. Disqualify some or all the former members of NFF and others, who might have played different roles in this disgraceful outing, from managing Nigerian football for the next 50 years.

4. Appoint a local coach (preferably Samson Siasia) to oversee the restructuring of the senior national team, with the view to building a formidable team. Such a coach could be offered one year or two years contract initially. This short contract will enable the government investigate the problems with the national teams, as well as avoid issues and problems with FIFA and CAF (if the country withdraws from all international competitions). The coach should be able to invite every qualified and talented Nigerian to fight for a place in the national team.

The country can continue participating in international football while efforts are geared towards football development in the country. Since the government is so passionate about football, she should play an advisory role rather than this dictatorial role.

I still hope to hear a feedback from the Nigerian government that the decision to ban the national teams from international football has been or will be rescinded.

bodunrin adebo : 2010-06-30 20:47

It is knee jerk reaction that does not address the root cause of our football problems. As much as I do not agree with current leadership of the NFF, our football will suffer more for this decision. Pray where is the blue print we will work on for the next two years to develop our football when we suspend participation in all competition?

Rather than suspend participation in all football competition, I will recommend we concentrate more on youth gootball and invest on improving ourt domestic league. Of course marauding band of Lulu and Taiwo Ogunjobi should be shown the exit door sooner rather than later.

Akin: 2010-06-30 20:48

This is the most stupid and unintelligent decision this our so-called president could make. Why banning football for two years? Which planet is this president inhabiting? Does he not know that this moronic decision of his is counter-productive? Does he not know that FIFA will not take kindly to this knee-jerk reaction? This decision of his will set our football many years backward - it is a case of trying to kill a fly with a sledge-hammer! Why dabbling into football in this way when there are so many problems crying for attention in Nigeria - no power, shambolic electoral system, no medical care, no good roads, no water etc - the list is endless. This is a red-herring and this is what you get when you have unthinking people at the helm of affairs of a country. What annoys me was John Fashanu coming on Sky television defending the indefensible. It beggars belief that a person who has played football at the top level in England will support this senseless idea of the president! Nigeria is a joke of a country! Is this the kind of leadership we will get from Goodluck Jonathan? Very very shameful indeed!

Garvey: 2010-06-30 20:50

That most forumites can not see the strategy behind this government's decision shows that most of you don't know what is going on in Nigerian football circle.
Check this statement: The taskforce’s chairman, Rotimi Amechi, confirmed the move – which is yet to be officially conveyed to Fifa –

Since Lulu and Co. refused to heed the sports minister's advice to stop the election schedule for August and even decided to report the Government to FIFA, the Government has now decided to put Lulu and cohorts under pressure. I bet you the next thing that will happen is that Lulu and his co-thieves will resign and the Government will rescind this decision. This is what will happen in the next few days.

Garvey: 2010-06-30 20:51

The decision will not be communicated to FIFA before Lulu will pick race.

Nigeria president bans national side from international competition

Nigeria get self-exclusion

Jonathan: Suspended national side

Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan has suspended the national side from international competition for the next two years.

The drastic action comes following his country's poor showing in South Africa, where Nigeria were knocked out in the group stage.

Lars Lagerback's side finished bottom of Group B, with just a solitary point from a draw with South Korea and defeats to Argentina and Greece.

Ima Niboro, a special adviser to the president, said: "Mr President has directed that Nigeria will withdraw from all international football competition for the next two years to enable Nigeria to reorganise its football.
Necessary

"This directive became necessary following Nigeria's poor performance in the ongoing FIFA World Cup."

But the Nigerian president is sure to find himself in hot water with Fifa as world football's governing body always strongly opposes political interference in the sport.

This has been seen most recently with Fifa president Sepp Blatter warning France's government not to interfere with the affairs of the French Football Federation following the team's disastrous World Cup.

In previous cases, Fifa have suspended a national association where governments have intervened in the running of the game.

Regarding the Nigeria situation, Fifa said in a statement: "We have no official information on this matter. However, in general, FIFA's position regarding political interference in football is well known."

I'm one of millions of nigerians who support his bid to become the nigerias president come 2011, but the way he was wrongly advice by some mischievious people to come into this conclusion without any consultation make me to doubt his competency.
Football is the only thing that bring joy to millions of nigerian. To ban football means to take away joy away from them.
Secondly it will not solve any problem but rather, take us back to square zero. I hope he make a u-turn from this "stupid" decision. Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan please dont kill our football.

i know that mr president may have acted out of annoyance but,he must temper justice with mercy.if mr president insisted on the ban then, i will strongly advice all the SE members (SA 2010)not to visit naija until the ban ends because their life will be in danger, including nff members, believe me we are crazy about football.let them live in exile so that there will feel the pains just as we the fans felt since there started playing like grand mamas.

Ebimobowei: 2010-06-30 23:07

The President has simply decided to call the bluff of Lulu and his cohorts. People who truly live in Nigeria and love our football were expecting this. Strangely enough I was sitting down just 3days ago with some friends and somebody said exactly the same thing and to my utmost surprise everybody supported this somewhat outlandish suggestion. I came to the sad realisation that we as lovers of this beautiful game were frustrated with the way football was bn run by a greedy cabal who have kept us constantly on sedatives and depressants due to the moronic (at best) and suicidal decisions coming out of the glass house. You do not dare the Government especially one that pays your bills. If you fail at doing your job you simply get out but Lulu thought he could blackmail the Govt so the President has decided to pull the rug from under him, if Lulu truly loves this country he and his cohorts had better resign immediately but I assure their greed, wickedness and disdain for Nigerians will not let them, they will rather see our football die than to throw in the towel for their inefficiency.
I will tell you what Goodluck (oldman sense) Jonathan will do next, he is going to set the dogs loose on these ****** rogues. These are surely interesting times. I will advise forumites to hold their breath or rather keep your hands of your keypads/boards and observe and learn the beautiful "Art of War". If you people do not realise this is a war against the mafia who have held our football in a chokehold you better realise it now.

Ebimobowei: 2010-06-30 23:24

I am not a xenophobic but I have come to this sad reality that some South Africans, especially those of black extraction are the most ignorant, moronic simpletons on planet earth. Yes we have come to your country to dominate you and if you cannot realise it too bad. You ungrateful scoundrels when we spent our resources fighting for your freedom you hid in your shanty towns. If not for the whites, Zimbabwe would be a paradise for you stupid, illiterate zombies. I have tried not to be insultive on this site but finally some of your comments have finally ticked me off. Is your President better than ours? And you foolish Nigerians who find it easy to insult those in leadership you will never do better, I bet where ever you are today you are not doing well. There is a common saying, "A people will get the kind of leadership they deserve". Until we come to the realisation that we are the ones who need to change then we will continue to be in this mess which allows illiterate South Africans and other lowlifes in the world to pick on us. Only a fool knows a fool, if President Goodluck Jonathan is a fool then we all are fools.
Goodluck to us all.

Ebimobowei: 2010-06-30 23:51

That the wrong descision from our beloved president.
If the Togo bus tragedy was anything to go by, FIFA would undoubtedly add an additional two years that will leave us in football wilderness for 4 good years. 4 Years we might have channelled in "Rebranding" the beautiful game!

oranka: 2010-07-01 01:07

President Jonathan has been caught with Yakubu juju, Prez is afraid to ask those big idiots in the super eagle and in the glass house to leave unconditionally and let this new breed take over the mantle. Soccer is our passion, how can we watch other countries during competition like AFCON ETC and our dear country's flag will not fly? Mr. Prez you got it wrong, those *******s that gave you that advice are enemies of Nigeria. If you do this, your ambition of 2011 is at stake, you will not get the vote of the youths make it somewhere and put my name, if you want my email address here it is, bestino2002b@yahoo.com.

Bibby: 2010-07-01 01:07

This is really an unfortunate decision. There are more urgent state matters needing attention; electricity, security, N/Delta, infrastructures etc...than football. Prez Joh shld apply same pressure on the boards of other comatose parastals in Nig. We appeal to him to rescind this decision and find a better way to deal with the rots in NFF & other vital sectors in Nig. Otherwise, Nig youths should organise a rally to protest this decision to the national assembly immediately.
Having said that, @ Ebimobowei, agreed with you. In my own part of Nig, we say that "it's the name you call your calabash that the outsiders will use for it". It's very pathetic that many Naijas will come on this forum & others elsewhere to show their personal frustrations on the nation, insulting the leadership, calling every1 all sort of unprintable names unjustifiably, then what do you expect from the envious neighbours in Africa & others globally (so, dont blame SAFRICANS & Ghananians).
Imagine many Naijas can claim that many of the Nig players are overage, but can easily make reference to Ghana's success at a similar competition, as if they are saints!! But, check KOG, no fan or forumite has ever come on site to write rubbish about their Egypt 09 Gold winning team, the same year that Nig won bronze at the U17 and many here were always looking out for the negative stories from the event.

oranka: 2010-07-01 01:23

On the other hand, this decision is tottaly a sign of no direction and incompetency, if there is findings of maladministration probe the officers involved. Does maladministration of the NFF or any body restricted Glossy fool Yakubu not to put the ball at the back of the net or maladministration asked Keita to misbehave? what are these people telling us, this decision is scandalous and mischief and is not accepted, Nigerians must rise and resist this capricious vision-less decision.
Jonathan,Jonathan, Jonathan, how many times have i called you, the truth is that, the managers of the super Eagle and the worthless players included in the squad are the problem of Nigeria soccer. People like Siasia who is bent to have result and not those take let us share people and their illegal hired coaches. Jonathan, give Siasia the nod we are solidly behind him, we will make it.jonathan, what is your own vision on the energy crisis in Nigeria, your senior brother Yar'dua gave us all the 7 point agenda never achieve one before go yamutu, how many agenda do u have?

I just listened to the chairman of ptf mr chebuke ameichi from radio nigeria, according to him, they (ptf) realized that the problem of the Super eagles is structural, and that compiled them to recomend to mr president to ban the national team from international competition for 2yrs so as to enable them set up a newly football body.
Going by this move, i think @9ja is right that se need to be ban for 2years so as to enable the govt to interfere (since fifa kick against govt interference) by sacking all the nff members. To summarise everything: se must be ban from international competion inorder to give room for immediate sack of nff members, since the problem is from nff.

Olasheni: 2010-07-01 01:42

Thank you mr president because SE has given 25% of Nigerians avoidable heart problems in recent years like me i don't watch their matches anymore because of my health. But mr president needs to let fifa know that our nff is full of thieves and rogues and it needs to be clean up from head to toe,we are Africans and not western nations neither well organised south americans football body so therefore fifa should just give a chance to clean our house of shame now.

Wow..alot of ignorant folks on this site.

The reasons why the President decided to stay away from football for 2 years is due to the following:
a. With the Nigeria FA quick to play the “FIFA will ban Nigeria if the Government intervenes” game card, it was always going to be impossible to nail these ****** thieves who have amassed mass wealth by destroying the future of Nigerian football. Now that the Goverment has decided to “ban” itself from FIFA, the sweeping begins and those ****** thieves are going to be locked up and prosecuted for not only the misappropriation of funds, but also the silly games of forcing players that are not good enough on the coaches.

b. With the politician thieves out of the office, a new change will be brought forth that will enable the true football heads who know what the game entails and have the recipe to get Nigerian football back on track before these politicians totally destroy what’s left of it.

c. Bring back dilligence, discipline and patriotism back into the national team.
d. Create a new foundation and constitution that will ensure these thieving politicians will not smell the FA office again.
e. Stop the influx of these undercover players agents in the FA who refuse to give the real ballers the opportunity to showcase their talents.

Now, if someone still insist that the above examples are not good enough reasons to “ban” the FA from FIFA competitions, then that person need their head re-examined for brain leakage.

President Goodluck Jonathan has done the needful by placing a moratorium on Super Eagle’s participation in any FIFA competition for two years.

There is a time to turn a blind eye on lavity and irresponsibility, and there is also a time to say enough is enough to lackadaisical performance of natioan assignments.

President Goodluck Jonathan has affirmed the latter by bringing to order the lack-lustre management of Nigerian football that has been going on for years now.

I have been of the opinion that the disheartening show the Super Eagles displayed in South Africa was only a climax of a whole era of inept football management, which has been the hallmark of the Nigerian football authorities.

President Jonathan has continued to speak against corruption in all facets of our national life. There is no stronger way of affirming this policy direction other than the step the President has taken.

A lot of people have come up with a lot of sentiments following the President’s action. But it is wise to move aware from the sphere of sentimentality, and look very objectively at the factors that made the tough action very imperative.

A lot of people are complaining that the President’s action is going to take football development backwards. But let me ask, has the sidon de look attitude that has been the pattern over these years taken our football any forward?

This move is a patriotic step that should be embraced by any right-thinking Nigerian. We need to have a retreat and do a national inner-self examination to find out what is not done rightly and what we need to do, to avoid the type of national heart-ache and embarrassment that our national team had become in the recent past.

Equally interesting is the investigations being initiated into the financial management of the Nigerian Football Federation. Those who are scared of FIFA’s reprisal action should tell us if FIFA is a protection agency for corrupt management of football.

The NFF is the bane of Nigerian football development. I am compelled to believe that the individuals that are in charge of administration of the NFF are more selfish than patroitic. That is why I greatly applaud the reported commencement of investigation into the staggering contract with Largarback. Why on earth would a more patroitic minded NFF not have given the coaching contract to our own Samson Siasia whose antecedents where even acknowledged by Largarback himself?

On assumption of duty in Nigeria, Largarback was quoted as saying Nigeria football management made a mistake by not keeping the U-20 team that held Argetina 0-1 in the final of the Beijin Olympic football event. That is the team raised by Siasia.

It must be recalled that the current revelling Ghanaian national team was their U-20 team that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt. The Ghanaians kept and nurtured their team, but Nigeria discarded a team that would have continued its ascendency.

All this is a manifestation of a corrupt and inefficient system. And nothing short of absolute revolution and reform could change the tide. And this is exactly what the President has done. FIFA and any groups or individuals interested in Nigerian football development must see this surgical treatment as an imperative for the diagnosis and cure of a malignant ailment that has befallen our football development.

For Nigerian football fans who may find this action as too drastic, and a denial of one of their few avenues for venting off stress arising from the gory state of affairs in the fatherland, let them bear with the government. This painful labour wil surely give birth to a better football administration and an efficient and capable national team.

Is it not better to heal the injury that is barring the Super Eagles from flying and wining, than to continue to manage the team and have millions of Nigerians suffer heartbreaks each time our national team is playing?

Kingsley O.: 2010-07-01 04:38

@9ja you're the biggest fool on this forum. When did nigerian football start to go down hill? wasnt it after that two year ban after 1996? more so the president should f-off, there are other matters he needs to deal with. So you're telling me that removing an incompetent board should cost the country years of football, you must be seriously crazy. people like mikel and enyeama look like they are moving on to become world class players and if we get banned by fifa cause of this we might never see them play for Nigeria ever again. Nigeria will also be banned from youth competitions and i heard Caf will also get involved and ban our club sides from the caf events, how will nigeria get better and grow a new generation of players. U better wake up and smell the f.u.c.k.ing coffee cause this is only taking us further backwards, a.s.s.hole!(i'm sooo pissed at this ****** country of mine)

Boa: 2010-07-01 04:51

Absolute nonsense (if the report is true). Mr. President, please get the hell out of football matters. You have much more important things to worry about.
For your information, certain things can be restructured while still in existence without having to destroy- and-rebuild. What will be the particular benefit of such decision? Who are you punishing? The fans, the players, or the staff?

Is this the kind of decisions you will be making a president of the country? I’m very worried.

The Nff (No Foot ball future) in Ngr only made changes to the coaching crew because of the high commission that will accrue to them and not to our interest .. That is why siasia was never considered or metsu who actually won the interview…… i took time to explain to us why the coching crew should not be changed few months to the world cup else disaster will loom after and we will drastically drop on the rankings… Amids National soccer anarchy..

Pls refer to my mail……

What has amodu done wrong that nff have mislead soccer loving nigerians to agitated for his replacement.

It understands we played badly through out but come to think of it…. Argentina played worst(with their array of stars)…. Losing several matches yet qualified. (Who knows they might pick up later due to consistency factor)..

Lets don’t fool our selves there is no better coach appart from the one that won that won his last game.

Ask RIKAARD. Scolari, Bonfere and co...

African champions egypt left is really late (95th minute) against algeria yet the whole press rooted for shetata

Several coaches have won major tournaments that they never qualified to attend and others that came in through the back door (denmark euro glory and greece @ euro cup) those tournaments had the best crop of other coaches.

Lets don’t fool our selves there is no better coach appart from the one that won that won his last game.

Ancelotic now driving the lovers seat at cheasea could not win the seria a title in his last 4 attempts and finished a miserable 4 th position two seasons ago..

But he IS Competing favourably with ferguson who won his last 3 titles and two champions leage final game in two seasons who is a better coach among the two..

We better hold tight to the one winning for us….
So we donot repeat the error of 2002 to bring in a certain philip troussier after amodu qualified us to jaspan/korea 2002 the rest was history.slumped om the rankings coupled with National anarchy

Infact the best team ever to grace w/c according to fifa standard never made to the final… brazil team of espana ’82.

Please lets watch this

Or should our Coach go because his team did not play wonderfully and lose like siasia and obuh’s teams…

Mourino said “avant grant nearly won all but never won any”....
…. Fifa does not record nearly.

Perhaps he has luck then i go with his luck than the best collection of brazil fine display that never won the trophy.

Lets put sentiments aside .. Nigerian players have lost the salt they were known for …

Only mikel (playing second fidel to essien) plays in a good team,

(martins is second to grafite and dzenko in pecking order at wolfsburg..he only plays as a backup to the other two in case they are off form or tired)

Yobo is the only regular nigerian (but in an average team: everton)

Others play in 3rd class teams or bench warmers.

If a coach can qualify a team with such a mediocratic players as ours, he is worth comending and allowed to continue. Compare to ur world class coach like maradona with his glut of stars. Who might even pick up at the Mundial

I do not intend to go into details of flopps against renounced world class coaches it may take a dozen of leaves.

And finally i ask please who is a better coach than amodu and the best coach for the job and i will show you a coach that has won all competitions and games he played,,,if such a coach doed not exist… amodu stays so we can ride on his luck and success….
i quote swiss under-17coach
“we won nigeria on shear luck”
At the junior level which is a developmental; session good football is expected … at the senior level result is what counts irrespective of the quality of play.

Have we thought of winning the cup than the brazil team of 82 the choice is ours .. I go with the former.

Is it because he has qualified us to world cup where neither france nor african champions egypt is sure of as of now.

Is it because he coached the only team in the africa (appart from civ) that did not loose a single game right from inception of the qualifiers.

(ghana the first team to qualify to the mundial had loss three enroute their feat even the mighty brazil let alone premiership bigwits england)

Or is it that nigeria topped the overall table in the african qualifier with 30 points without losing any game as shown below

-- p - l - pts
Nig. 12 - 0 - 30………………………………………………….
Cam. 12 - 1 - 29……………………………………………………
civ. 12 - 0 - 28…………………………………………………….
Egy. 12 - 2 - 28…………………………………………………….
Gha. 12 - 3 - 27…………………………………………………….

Perhaps it is becaused he had never failed in any assignment amids any in house turmoil (mali 2002)
• First and only nigerian till date to qualify nigeria to w/c.. 2002 & 2010 when our prefered expertriate bonfere failed us.
• First to qualify and lead us to our only confederation cup to date.
• 5 times fa cup winners with 3 clubsites.
• 2 cwc( now african confed. Cup) finals with a win
• Both nigerian 1st and 2nd division winner.( when called to salvage a dying team: sharks)
• First nigerian to qualify and build a beach soccer team now annihilated
• Caf champions league finalist with 3sc on first attempt.
• One of the few nigerian coaches to have an all round experience in the game at all levels, national, local and international.
• One of the few nigerians to coach outside our shores.

I know he will definately meet up the semi final limit given him both at ANC and SA2010

///end/////

Nff Evenyually left him 4 a man that could not qualify his native Country for 2010 nor achive any thing with them 10 yrs in charge of thier national teams yet he is ginen extention so they can make more commision (not minding the state of our soccer) now my prediction has come to past with National anrchy looming just like after 2002'

lol ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

PRESIDENT GOOD LUCK CARRY GO.....

Anthony: 2010-07-01 05:48

@danarchy -is- back, pls stop disturbing us with ur Amodu litany. We have gone beyond that man. HE WILL NEVER BE COACH OF OUR NATIONAL TEAM AGAIN. And just in case u didn`t know, he was fired cos he was (and still is) tactically deficient.

Dibia: 2010-07-01 06:39

Pls Danarchy stop mentioning Amodu. That man is worst than lagerbeer. Amodu is a deft. Lack technical assesment and the ability to understand what is happening in a game. so allow him to remain where he is hiding .

Dibia: 2010-07-01 06:43

Mr President I disagree with your decision to ban the eagles for two years with the following reasons.
1- Nff is the problem not the eagles. You should have advocate for the removal of sani lulu after his term is complete.
2- Probe all the Nff staff and jail all that are found guilty of stealing.
3- Appoint Samson Siasia as the new coach and give him 4yrs mandate to rebuild a new team for the next world cup
4- Call for the disbandment of the present eagles except for 5-6 of them that are still good, like Uche and enyeama

Dibia: 2010-07-01 06:49

Mr president, banning the eagles for two years does not make sense bcos some of this present crop of eagles are not patriotic. they dont even care if u ban the eagles for 20yrs. they are millionares in europe. they dont care. some of them have not been invited for 2yrs, so its not new to them to be away from eagles for few yrs. Rethink and recall this decision Mr President. The commom masses will suffer bcos football make Nigerians happy. go after the crimininals Lulu and co. (NFF)

im proudly south african bt i believe nigerians dnt hv brains...mr president proved it..

Msanzifinest.coza: 2010-07-01 07:55

@Ebimobowei and other haters of South Africa especially Black South Africans, ur envy; jealousy and hatred will destroy ur inner soul; whether u like it or not, RSA is a powerhouse and Africa's only success story,Africa never got the World's attention ever before since South Africa's Democracy in 1994;Politically; in science,Good governance;Corporate Societies & Businesses;Foreign Direct Investments; Democracy;International Sports & Health etc.Our Contributions to Africa's positive image is not equalled by any country in Africa including Nigeria. from Nobel laurettes,UN peacekeeping; Political Mediations; International Rescues and Aid-relief projects, G20 membership;UN security councils envolvements;Hosted more 500 International events and conferences, WHAT POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT DID U DO FOR AFRICA OR BRING TO AFRICA???NIGERIA I AM ASKING.

tk.: 2010-07-01 08:01

here go the nigerians again using their big bottoms to think rather than the brains. nigeria u are a disgrace to africa. you talk too much and do nothing. south africa is 1000000000000000 times better organised than you nd you will never host a world cup in 10000000000000000000000000 years to come. it serves you right. tli tli tli tli tli tli tli. proudly organised bafana bafana

tk.: 2010-07-01 08:06

this time mandela did not critisize your government. what is your excuse? man nigeria sucks. maybe it is time you all go back home(nigeria not hilbrow) and clean up your messs, then you can start comparing yourselves to SA. maybe you can ask Khoza to teACH YOU A THING OR TWO ABOUT RUNNING AN ORGANIZATION. Zuma will never interfere in bafana business. ja nija u talk tooooooooooooooooo much. i suggest you concentrate on what you do best; selling drugs and produciing fakes. hahahahahahahahah

ken gadaffi: 2010-07-01 08:40

I still dont see the logic here. What really is the correlation between banning the national team and helping to improve the structure of football in Nigeria. I guess someone has adviced the President the wrong way.
The problem of Nigeria football is surely NFF and the Governement has to fix that right and not banning the football team.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

Msanzifinest.coza: 2010-07-01 08:48

@Ebimobowei:UR STUPID AND IGNORANT U KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SOUTH AFRICA'S STRUGGLE HISTORY, BLACKS FOUGHT THE SYSTEM FOR MORE THAN 45 YEARS, MAJORITY NEVER RAN AWAY THEY FOUGHT INSIDE THE COUNTRY, FUNDING FROM INTERNATIONAL DONORS LIKE USSR; CUBA; EAST GERMANY, ANGOLA AND CHINA, wht contribution are u talking about from Nigeria?? GO BACK TO UR COUNTRY AND FIGHT THE INJUSTICES THERE, TACKLE EXTREME POVERTY; POLIO AND MALARIA; SYSTEMATIC CORRUPTION AND FRAUD ETC, U WILL BE DOING JUSTICE FOR UR COUNTRY INSTEAD OF JOINING UR BROTHERS WHO RAN AWAY FROM HUNGER AND JOINING THEIR COLONIAL MASTERS IN EUROPE AND AMERICA, or joining the estimated 400 000 thousand nigerians here in South Africa majority of them illegal immigrants seeking aslylum to these beautiful place called "mzanzi afrika" Again dominating us?? My foot...check ur facts correctly, u could not even buy tickets for SE Eagles games instead it was South Africans who bought them in great numbers, Shame on u, Ur Envy is killing u guyz, South Africa will countinue to shine NEXT IS THE 2020 OLYMPICS; WHAT'S NEXT FOR NIGERIA?????More Corruption and Niger Delta civil war???

Bonga: 2010-07-01 09:20

@Udeme which qualifications are you talking about? Bafana Bafana did not play with the SUPER DRUGDEALERS in their qualifiers. For your info SA qualified for the 2010 FIFA WC on the 15th of May 2004.

Kerewa: 2010-07-01 09:43

Mr presido, u went too far, Dont ban the national teams. I guess u should have other subtle means of chasing those crazy bald heads out of the town. They lost $230,000 in that glass house and no one is talking. Other maladministrations are also very glaring for everyone to see. So use EFCC on them and everything will be history. Before they will come out from the cell for their deeds, 2yrs will be over. Charge them for corruption. maybe like 50 count charges

I rest my case

Ayomide: 2010-07-01 10:41

NOTHING BAD, DAT IS OK.

Matlock: 2010-07-01 11:26

Rotimi Amaechi, who is the chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), said: “Our recommendation is based on what is on the ground. We went to the World Cup and found all sorts of problems and we felt we should sit back and look inward.” The governor who was joined by other members of the PTF, said: “We will formally write FIFA to say that Nigeria won’t engage in international football competitions.”
Amaechi explained that the government’s decision had nothing to do with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
He, however, lamented that Nigeria had not done well in continental and intercontinental football competitions, stressing that “you cannot have tumour and continue to massage it with all the blood.”

Katsina: 2010-07-01 11:30

thank you mr. president for making this judgement, let be disbanded so that a new generation can be formed and i think nigerians are olso tired of the team

tk.: 2010-07-01 11:59

who cares. we've got a world cup to run.

Speaker: 2010-07-01 13:47

If FIFA does not respect our National Decisions, then FIFA should take over finacial running of NFF, Local Leagues, football administration and international matches.

FIFA needs to review its no political interference stand, as it has not been able to put in place structures that addresses, bad administration and corruption.

We need to clean our house and FIFA has to accept this, else FIFA should take over finacial responsibilities of our football admins

Ayomide: 2010-07-01 15:21

Mr. President, that is not the solution to the problem facing Nigeria football. According to Yoruba proverb say and I quote "ORIFIFO KO NI OGUN ORIFIFO" that is somebody that has headache to break is head is not the solution to headache; the solution is to take medicine.

Mr. President thinks about it very well.

GOD BLESS U SIR.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

boso: 2010-07-01 16:18

@Gbenga Thank you soo much. So all of you that have been claiming to know about football here dont even know nothing. How can Fifa ban us if we did not even enter for the qualification of any competition? In the case of 1996, we refused to go to the competition we've already qualified for and that was the reason for the ban. This is the right move from the government.

mike: 2010-07-01 17:17

@Nape Abel, I agree with you 80% but Nigerians also contributed towards the freedom you now enjoy as a citizen of your country, but that does not give Nigerians the right to think that they should insult black South Africans and don't expect the same back. Some Nigerians that know little to nothing about South Africa have made so many inflammatory comments about black South Africans here in this forum, for example some have credited the advancement of South Africa solely to Whites, implying that Black South Africans have not contributed anything towards the advancement of the country which is arrant nonsense. I am a Nigerian, and the greatest African leader that has ever lived is Nelson Mandela he is my hero and a black South African. I want to let all those Nigerians living in SA to know that it is by the grace of black South Africans that Nigerians are now in SA and not because of the white minority that ruled that country for years, Nigerians know your friends and your enemies.

Msanzifinest.coza: 2010-07-02 07:47

@Mike: I thank you for ur response; point noted, again i am not trying to belittle or undermine Nigeria's contributions, every senseble person knows that South Africa's Struggle for freedom was a Global affair every country got envolved; But the most crucial element of the Freedom struggle was Black South Africans within the country who fought the system from inside, they were a powerful weapon for the Liberation Movements then (PAC;ANC;AZAPO adn SACP);and u are correct to point that Freedom and democracy that is enjoyed by everybody in country now was achieved through the Blood of Black Martys who died or killed by the Apartheid regime; The Black political leadership also made correct decisions by not casting Whites out and destroying the Infrusture and the economy that was in place; instead they build on it and learned from the mistakes of other African countries liberated before them, it was a wise decision to make hence Our road to Freedom and democracy is hailed and admired by many as a miracle that the West in particular did not expect it to end like this. Anyway South Africa belongs to al who live in it; Blacks; Whites; Asians or other Africans who are queing for citizenship here,Despite the Challenges we have on AIDS; Unemployment; Crime; Xenophobia; We embrace everyone.
