Congolese defender Dikilu Bageta has joined Free State Stars on a one-year contract after enduring a career-threatening end to his stay at Maritzburg United that saw match fixing allegations leveled against him by the club.
Bageta's one-year deal has an option of another year. He will have familiar company in three other DR Congo players that Stars have also signed.
"I have signed for Stars and I am grateful to them for giving me a chance to continue with my career after what happened at Maritzburg. I have started training with them on Monday, although I did train with them late last season as well," says Bageta.
"What happened at Maritzburg hurts but I have put it behind me and I just don't want to talk about that club anymore. I am happy that Mike Mokoena (Stars' owner) has given me this job. I am inspired by his words that I must keep a strong mind on the job ahead," he says.
The match fixing allegations against him were later withdrawn and although he was cleared of the offence, he says his dignity had already been pulled through the mud.
