Odemwingie lands N50m IGI deal

Osaze Odemwingie signs with IGI

Posted: 24 May 2010 Time: 10:04 pm

Osaze Odemwingie has signed an endorsement deal worth N50-million in insurance coverage with Industrial and General Insurance (IGI).

The contract, which makes the player IGI's brand ambassador, was signed in Abuja just before Friday's Presidential Dinner.

Remi Olowude, IGI's executive vice-chairman, said the choice of the Lokomotive Moscow forward was an easy one: “It was easy for us to choose Mr Odemwingie because IGI and Odemwingie are both super brands in Nigeria's sporting arena,” he explained.

“We settled for Odemwingie because of his reputation, committment and dedication to the Nigerian national team over the years.”

The contract is for three years and KickOffNigeria.com understands that the value to the player is in the region of N15-million to N20-million, although neither party would confirm the figure.

Osaze is expected to be named in Nigeria's final squad of 23 for the World Cup next month.

The match between Canada and Argentina is not for the faint heart. Their pace is out of this world. This is not a match for people Like Kanu. Nigeria is not Canada for sure. But there is a lesson to be learned: We cannot field slow paced players or we will be disgraced.

I was also watching the match. People were really making comments about Maradona's choice of players, but that guy really knows what he's doing. Even though Canada is not that good, but the speed of Argentina requires a strong Nigerian side to be able to beat them. Also, they are very sneaky when it comes to dribbling and that might be an advantage for them to get freekicks. Funny enough it's currently 5-0 to Argentina and Messi is on the bench.

Congrats Osaz! Hope this will further encourage other players to always be more patriotic when in National colours. Now they know everybody is watching their every attitude towards the national assignments.
