KICK OFF rates the Bidvest Wits and AmaZulu players' performances after the Nedbank Cup Final at the Soccer City Stadium on Saturday.
BIDVEST WITS:
6 Francis Chansa – hardly tested as Wits were always on the offensive, but when he was called on for saves he acquitted himself well.
6 Sipho Mngomezulu – great cross to set-up Rodrigues for Wits' first goal and hardly beaten at right back, a makeshift position for that matter.
6 Patrick Phungwayo – appeared to be enjoying himself pretty much the whole game.
7 Timothy Batabaire – solid in defence and Dlamini failed to beat him even once the whole game.
6 Junaid Mashamaite – formed a great combination with the Ugandan.
*8 Michael Morton – bosses the midfield for most of the game and most of his passes to the wingers Myeni and Tshabangu are inch perfect. When he went to collect his man of the match award no one was surprised.
6 Nyiko Tshabangu – manages to beat Biyela a couple of times, but his crossing needs a work on.
5 Mark Haskins – he was ineffective and when he got his chances, like the header straight to Gindre's legs in the first half, he failed to take advantage.
5 Marawaan Bantam – hardly troubled Usuthu in the 50 minutes he played.
6 Sifiso Myeni – fouls Sangweni towards the end of the first stanza and gets booked for it. However, whatever he did afterwards was good for Wits and created Vilakazi's second goal.
7 Sifiso Vilakazi – he was shooting at goal when he got his chance in the first half, but more importantly his brace put the nail in Usuthu's coffin with some fine finishing at the death.
7 Fabricio Rodrigues – makes a big impact in the 40 minutes he played and no-one voiced their disagreement when he was sent to the media room after the game with the title man of the match, he was that good, but Morton was in fact the best player on the day, but such was Rodrigues' impact there was a mix-up.
Calvin Kadi – he came on for Haskins in the 75th minute and never had a shot at goal, but didn't play long enough to get a rating.
AMAZULU:
6 Nick Gindre – partly to blame for Wits' first goal when he fails to come out to collect Mngomezulu's cross, but was let down by his defence for both Vilakazi's goals.
5 Smangaliso Biyela – in the first half he was beaten once too many times by Tshabangu at right back and later in the game he couldn't contain Myeni.
6 Abdullahi Ishaka – he is booked in the 13th minute for a rash tackle on Mngomezulu, but at times makes some fine tackles in the 18 area.
5 Pere Ariweriyai – becomes the third Usuthu player to receive a yellow card in the first half, unnecessarily for that matter, for handling the ball in the 41st minute and also partly to blame for Rodrigues' goal and Vilakazi's second as he fails to organise his defence.
5 Siphiwe Mkhonza – he appears shaky in the first 15 minutes, but gains confidence in the 25th minute when he wins possession from Bantam inside the box from the right. Mkhonza slides in with a great tackle, much to the excitement of the folk in the Stadium, but later on in the game Vilakazi proves too big a task to handle.
5 Thamsanqa Sangweni – he lost too many challenges to Morton, who had the Usuthu youngster running out of breath.
4 Nhlanhla Zwane – this was probably his worst showing in the Amazulu jersey. He couldn't trouble the Wits defence, either from the right or left, no matter how hard he tried.
4 Litha Ngxabi – he was a ‘passenger' and it was no surprise when he was taken off in the 74th minute.
*7 Tsweu Mokoro – hits a powerful shot in the 29th minute that catches Chansa napping, but lucky for Wits it goes wide off the right post and credit to Mokoro as he was only one of very few Usuthu players who were trying hard enough on the day.
5 Dumisani Ngwenya – he hardly touched the ball for the better part of the game and had no real chances at goal.
5 Ayanda Dlamini – receives an unnecessary yellow card in the 27th minute for diving. He tries to beat Batabaire in the box coming from the left and loses the ball, then falls like a bag of potatoes hoping for a penalty, but Jerome Damon is too experienced a referee to be fooled and brandishes a yellow card. In the 39th minute, looking as if he was suffering from stage fright he takes a shot in the box with his right from a left position and instead of troubling Chansa it goes wide across the penalty spot. You guessed it right… he was booed.
Sthembiso Dlamini – he comes on for Ngxabi and simply takes over the ‘passenger' role.
Sandile Gumede – comes on for Ngwenya with nine minutes left on the clock and not long enough in the field to get a rating or the dramatic equaliser he got in the semis against Sundowns.
Bradley Ritson – same as Gumede, maybe he could have come on earlier as Zwane was of no use.
