President Jacob Zuma, will be the guest of honour at this weekend's Nedbank Cup Final at Soccer City will officially open the magnificent venue before kick-off.
"This is truly an honour for the PSL to be part of such an event," said PSL CEO, Kjetil Siem.
"We will be testing the readiness of Soccer City as a venue for the World Cup and with President Zuma in attendance; this is a big moment for the PSL."
"I must also thank the City of Joburg – the owners of the stadium – for their first class co-operation and letting us stage the Nedbank Cup Final as part of the official opening of Soccer City."
Zuma will joined by a host of other high profile politicians including the Gauteng Premier and the Mayor of Johannesburg.
Siem added that hosting the first ever match at the newly built and renovated Soccer City will further enhance the reputation of the PSL.
"The magnitude of this match is immense and we should definitely not underestimate ourselves when it comes to hosting these big games where our country's President is in attendance. I'm confident that we will host a spectacular match with everything from logistics to security organised at the highest level of efficiency."
Siem added that the Nedbank Cup Final will raise the bar for future PSL events with 76 000 tickets sold for the match.
Soccer City's capacity is close to 90 000 but a section of 8000 seats is closed off for as the finishing touches are added ahead of the World Cup tournament.
AmaZulu and Bidvest Wits have the honour of being the first teams to play at this illustrious venue and will battle for the R6-million prize of the Nedbank Cup.
"It's a historic day for South African soccer and I am really pleased, we all are, that there will be thousands of fans there and that it will be a celebration for all those coming to the game and those watching on television," said PSL CEO Kjetil Siem.
"This is the very first game at this world class stadium and AmaZulu and Wits must be very proud of themselves, they certainly deserve to be there and millions of eyes will be watching them."
"The two teams are not used to playing in front of such a crowd and I am sure they will be covered with goose bumps when they enter the field."
"I hope they deliver a match that is worthy of the occasion and that this day will be remembered for the fans and the football."
South African songstress Vicky Sampson will set the scene with her smash-hit, the truly South African song, My African Dream.
DJ Tira will also be spinning the decks and getting fans into the groove.
The gates will open at 10h00 and the match kicks off at 15h00.
