Baribote position under threat

Posted: 2010-05-20 13:16

Rumson Baribote is in danger of losing his position as a member of the executive committee of the Nigeria Premier League after failing to hand in his resignation as chairman of Bayelsa United within the stipulated window.

Baribote, whose appeal against Davidson Owumi's eligibility to contest elections is at an NFF Arbitration Panel, also failed to attend the inaugural meeting of the new board.

Elections into the board of the NPL were held on May 8, and Art F of the Electoral Guidelines direct all elected members of the board to hand in their resignations from their various clubs to the Electoral Committee within seven days of the election.

A member of the Election Committee explained that due to the protests and appeals, that provision took effect from the day of the Appeal Committee's Resolution of the appeals.

Art F (v) provides the penalty for non-compliance as leading to "nullification of the election and a bi-election to be conducted within 14 days after the nullification".

The other three affected members, Davidson Owumi (Rangers), Shehu Gusau (Zamfara United) and Abdulrazaq Wopa (Kwara United) have turned in their resignations.

The Bayelsa United chairman now has three more days to hand in his disengagement from the league champions.

something is wrong with this Baribote,we dont know him yet he wants to be the head of NPL using every means. Gone are d days when every novice would want to be the head because of monetary benefits. He should go to that profession where his comparative advantage is most needed and leave Davidson Owumi alone to do his job in football.

i think we need to learn how to accept defeat in this part of the world particularly in election matters.can't we learn from Brown(UK Prime Minister) who just resigned from the office after he was voted out.

These me, i and myself only must stop in this country. The claim by others that they must own some positions and things in belonging to the generallity of us in this country must stop. Who is baritope? where did he play professional football or which team did he ever coached at international level? what is it that he achieved in the nigerian soccer that he is claiming the seat of NFL chairmanship by force? Or is it bcos his townman is the president then he must get what he wants. When did Ijaw villagers become Lords in this country. pls stop deceiving urself and play the game by the rules as JG did, b4 you burn ur hands or bite more than u can chew. ALLOW PEACE TO REIGN MY g.

with Owumi's ineligibility, can the same rule be applied to Mr. Lulu and co. Some how some where in that Article under some sections, there most be something there that would render Mr.Lulu ineligible to re-contest for his post. if there isn't any then we should squeeze it in.
