Troughton to leave Thanda

Posted: 2010-05-19 19:12

Thanda Zulu Royal head coach Sammy Troughton reveals that he will be leaving Amabhubhesi.

Troughton's pending departing comes in the wake of a number of players who have already left.

Tonic Chabalala, Kelebogile Mabe, Michel Babale, Ivan Winstanley, Thabiso Rammile and Siyabonga Mfeka are among some of the players that are no longer with the club.

Mario Atakligan, Troughton's manager confirms to KickOff.com that Troughton is heading for the exit door because, he says, there has been a delay in reaching a common understanding with management.

Troughton also tells KickOff.com that he doesn't see much of a future at Thanda with the way things are going at the moment.

"The situation at Thanda is such that I have been waiting to hear what is happening going forward and the way things are now I believe I have to start looking for a new job.

"The club has relocated to Richards Bay. The word is that they want to cut costs but there is nothing being said about my situation.

"At the end of the day I have to secure my future which I don't see being at Thanda anymore. I don't share the same philosophy with management and our way of thinking about how players must be treated is not the same. Our views on how the coach must work are also not the same.

"There were reports that I had disappeared, but how can I even be with the club if it is in Richards Bay when I don't even have a place to stay there," says Troughton.

KickOff.com managed to contact former CEO Pierre Delvaux who is currently in Nice, France in an effort to clarify what is happening, but unfortunately he was in a meeting.

Delvaux did, however, disclose that he had recently acquired all the shares in the club and had opted to relocate the team to Richards Bay in order to retrench their claim to being the only professional side in the region.

He added that the First Division Coastal Stream outfit will play all their home games in the town which is situated some 160km from Durban and that they were aiming to make a serious bid to regain their elite League status after being relegated last season.

Questioned about Troughton's claims, he pointed out that the coach's contract was due to expire at the end of the season and that matters would be sorted out when he returns from overseas.

He did not say who was making top level decisions in his absence.

TRZ endured a disruptive season following their relegation at the end of last season, with a number of changes in management and technical staff.

First it was Lawrence 'Professor' Ngubane controlling affairs at top level and then Nastasia Tschilas moved into the top office.

The Iron Lady initially indicated that she was interested in buying the club but later added that she had no ties to Thanda despite being active at the club since late last year and being referred to as the club's Managing Director for a long period.

Former Bafana Bafana legend Mark Fish began the season as head coach, however, after a string of poor results, he was replaced by Troughton who moved to Durban just days after being shown the door from Mpumalanga Black Aces, along with Tsichlas's brother-in-law Peter Koutroulis.
