Durban's Vodacom Regional League side African Wanderers are negotiating to buy the status of cash-strapped First Division Coastal Stream side Bay United.
The Nelson Mandela Metro side was reported earlier this year to be contemplating going into liquidation.
Abaqulusi's director of communications Kgotso Machili said that he was not in a position to disclose details of the financial aspect of the deal, nor could he throw any light on what will happen to Umlilo's current crop of players, many of whom are still owed outstanding wages.
Questioned further on the League's Dispute Resolution Chamber's ruling that Bay are still liable for outstanding monies, amounting to more than R1-million, for outstanding wages during the 2008/2009 season, Machili said as far as he was aware that matter did not form part of the current talks.
"Once we reach some sort of agreement with Bay, we will engage all parties in setting things straight.
"Regarding Bay's current squad, if we take over and there are players that we want, they will be invited to Durban to be assessed by our technical team."
"Our intention as Abaqulusi management is to get the team back to where it belongs which is in the Premier League.
"Currently the negotiations are at an advanced stage and we are confident that soon we are going to put a pen on paper, possibly by next week.
"Taking into consideration the rich history of Abaqulusi we really feel we do not belong where we are currently, the Vodacom League."
