It is official; the annual Vodacom Challenge that always involves Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs and one overseas team will not happen this year.

The off-season tournament always takes place in July and lasts for one week. This yea's showpiece will not take place because of the Fifa 2010 World Cup which takes place on home soil from June 11 to July 11.

"No, we will not have the Vodacom Challenge this year. It has been postponed till next year," says the Managing Director of SAIL marketing company, Sizwe Nzimande.

SAIL has always been tasked with organising the Vodacom Challenge over the years.

The Vodacom challenge started in 1999 when it was still contested by the Soweto giants and two teams from leagues on the African continent. In 2005 it changed to a three team tournament.

Teams like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester City have all participated in the tournament over the years.

Good news indeed. Other teams won't be able to copy what Orlando Pirates and Chiefs are doing in the pre-season.

It is sad to hear that the preseason will only start by Telkom charity Cup! Most players made their names on Vodacom Challenge. It is such an interesting event even though only two clubs from RSA do benefit from them! It is such a pity that it will not happen this year!

Now CHIEFS are going to be crowned 10/11 league champs in may next year, watch!

Our players always played too many pre-season games and were half tired by the time league kicks off.

PS: At Naturena, our footballing policies say "we are not going to sign any new players this off-season, unless those players are better than what we already have". I AM NOT SURE ABOUT MINING POLICIES????????

i agree with Thabang! We always struggle during the 1 few games of the league because of the Vodacom Challange! Our important playes get injured and by the time we start the season we struggle! This time other teams wont know what we have! We will win the league next season! AMAKHOSI 4 ETERNITY!

Its fine we'll still not be trophyless. Maybe, our pre-season steam will collect us some valuable 3pts into the new season

manley: 2010-05-19 09:18

changes are nesessary at times, its because of the world cup but it will be back next year bigger and stronger and all those who hates pirates and chiefs willhave a chance to shine this season, haters.....
