AmaZulu still rebuilding - Tovey

AmaZulu have been firmly entrenched as the PSL's 'Cup Kings' after their exploits in Knockout Cup competitions this season.

After semifinal losses in the MTN8 and Telkom Cups, Usuthu went one better in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday by slaying wealthy opponents Mamelodi Sundowns to book their place in Final to be staged at Soccer City on Saturday.

But AmaZulu coach Neil Tovey believes his team is not a finished product and, they are still undergoing a building process.

"We've embarked on a three-year plan to build the team, so we're still a work in progress. The players are starting to understand the type of play the technical committee expects of them," said Tovey.

"The team was vastly improved in the second half of the season, especially in the defence. Such was our form that we were the highest point's accumulators in the second round, even more than League champions SuperSport United."

With regards to the win against Sundowns, Tovey was beginning to feel like his team would not overcome their semifinal bogey, especially after the chances they squandered in the first-half. Including Tsweu Mokoro's fluffed penalty attempt.

"I was thinking, here we go again after the first-half. Against a team like Sundowns you can't afford to waste goal scoring chances. But my team showed great character in coming from a goal behind to snatch victory.

"In fact the guys have been showing similar determination for much of the season after our disastrous start," Tovey pointed out.

Looking ahead to the Saturday's date with Bidvest Wits at Soccer City, Tovey said: "There will be no need to motivate the players for the Final, I'm sure they'll rise to the occasion. But Wits will be a difficult opponent. We've seen that all through this competition."

Congrats Neil.

Whoever wrote this piece must be smoking pen ink, Cup Kings? What exploits have they to show that they deserver that title?

That title belongs to the only true cup kings in SA, Chiefs.

Khosification

Tovey.. I think your team is getting there definately.. As a die-hard Chiefs supporter, i would like to thank you for beating Sunflops... you did it for us and we are proud of you..

Remember this is the team that fired you for no good/apparent reason..

Shapa Tovey Shapa!! and to think Trott is talking crap about lacking depth! what depth?

SA football is boring. Look at Chelsea, it was obvious that they will beat Portmouth on Sat. But here in SA, you support big teams, small teams you find things are the same. In Europe you know if Manchester does'nt do it, Chelsea, liverpool or ****nal will do it. But in Mzansi, teams like Chiefs are beaten by minows, Sundowns by Amazulu whom if we can rank you'll find Amazulu very low. The reason we choose to support these big teams is because we think they have more strength against smaller teams but it is still the same. It is very painfull to be SA soccer supporter. Look at Pirates, such a Big team and they are going to their 11th year without any Trophy. That's being like in hell when you support soccer in SA

Maxy, hehehe I feel you brother! the problem is that we give shibobo players big heads and they think they have arrived and that same attitude is now in Bafana. Too much politics in soccer in this country from the corrupt "****** agents! to the coaches! including Pitso and Parreira!!!1

If Usuthu could have lost to Sundowns, will we be aware of the 3-year plan coach! Shut your mouth with your teams lotto win and concentrate on how you will win the cup on Saturday. Beating Sundowns on penalities does not guarantee you the cup! If you lose to Wits will you still talk about your teams 3-year plan! I doubt.
