Roder de Sa delighted with Mark Haskins

Wits took a chance with Haskins

Bidvest Wits coach Roger De Sa says he took a chance playing an injured Mark Haskins in the Nedbank Cup semifinal against Free State Stars, but in the end it paid off.

Haskins started on the bench because of a back problem and did not train for the whole week, but when he came on for Rodriques in the 73rd minute, he changed the complexion of the game, netting twice to send the Clever Boys into the Final against AmaZulu with a 3-1 win.

“We had more than eight players out because of suspension and injuries, so we have to make use of the available players. And most of the players had to be played out of position, like Sibusiso Mahlangu, who had to play left-back.

“I would have liked Haskins to have started, but because of his injury we only took a chance and brought him on in the last 30 minutes and it paid off.”

De Sa believes his team should have wrapped up the match in normal time already.

“We dominated the match, especially in the second half, and should have wrapped it on normal time, but we missed a lot of chances.

“However, this is a young team as we promoted 12 youngsters from our development side and we expect them to miss chances, but in the end we were deserved winners.”

Haskins says he was very happy and adds that it was their time to make up for what has not been their best season.

“I am glad to have done it for my team and it is always nice to come off the bench and make the difference, especially as it was a season which was full of ups and downs.”

Haskins you a marvel to watch boy and your humble attitude makes you extraordinary as you do your talking on the field!!! Wish Parreira/Pitso was not so blind to see that! You skillful and a good role model for many youngsters and I hope the youngsters around you at Wits take a leaf from that.
You know how to score goals that's for sure, how many this season? have lost count now and you do it with both left and right feet, something most Bafana players cannot do, eish you make the bushies proud boy, and I visualise you playing with Pienaar and mesmerize us hehehe!!!

Seems like this cup likes you boy, playing in front of 100 million fans worldwide will be awesome! and I know the boys are going to put up a good fight! so much for the so called big teams opening up soccer city, God is Good and justice is sweet!!!

Remember where it all started - at Jomo Cosmos off course. This proves beyond doubt that Cosmos is the best football academy in South Africa. You sing their praise non stop - Yeye, Mphela, Gould, Haskins, Laffour,Mabalane,Tsutsulupa,Kadi, next season it will be Thapelo Tshilo etc.
