Aduana win Ghana League

Aduana Stars are champions of Ghana, remarkably in their first season in the Ghana top flight but Accra Great Olympics have been relegated after just two seasons back in the Premier Division.

The Dorma club beat Berekum Arsenals 1-0 in the deciding game but were done a huge favour when Bechem Chelsea beat AshantiGold 1-0 who needed a single point to clinch the title.

Despite being level on points with Aduana, 53 apiece, AshantiGold have been overhauled to the title via the head-to-head rule as the they miss the chance to lift the title for the first time after 14 years.

In the relegation battle, Great Olympics joined Sekondi Eleven Wise and Sekondi Hasaacas as the three teams that will play in Division One next season.

That all three of the clubs relegated this season are traditional clubs will alarm some but it is the story of Aduana that will be the talking point and provide encouragement for clubs just into the premier League.

It is the first time since the beginning of the professional league 1993 that a club outside Hearts, Kotoko and AshantiGold have won the title. It also breaks the duopoly of Hearts and Kotoko on the title since the 1997 League when the two of them have shared every League title between them.
