'Scara was very special'

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Ted Dumitru believes Emmanuel ‘Scara’ Ngobese could have achieved a lot more than he did in football.
The dribbling wizard succumbed to TB on Tuesday morning – aged 29 – at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.
Ngobese’s business manager Jazzman Mahlakgane confirms that the left-footed midfielder had been back on TB medication after a relapse. “He went back to hospital on Sunday, but he couldn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace,” says Mahlakgane.
Dumitru tells KickOff.com Ngobese’s era was an ‘unfulfilled dream’. “He helped us at Chiefs win the 2004/05 League title, which was our second League title in a row and later he won a cup or two but I don’t think, for someone so talented, he achieved everything he could have achieved in his football career,” Dumitru argues.
“I was very close to him and the last time I spoke to him was three weeks ago and he told me he was going to bounce back to football. It is a big blow, but what is sad for me is that nobody seemed to understand his nature,” Dumitru says.
The Romania-born coach argues that Ngobese’s style of play made him an enemy of the coaches he played under during his career.
“He was often frustrated because of the way he played and I think the frustration led to him doing some bad things that we read about in the past. I think he leaves behind an unfulfilled dream as this player could have at least played in the World Cup. He remains immortal in my mind and my condolences to those who were close to him… what a special player, amazing,” Dumitru adds.
Former Kaizer Chiefs right back Cyril Nzama says the football fraternity has lost a ‘truly great player’ in Ngobese. “I played with him a lot at Chiefs and I can safely say he was one great, special player…. the things he did no-one could do them. We had a lot of good memories together and my condolences to the Ngobeses for this big loss… he will forever be missed,” says Nzama.
Ngobese also turned out for Tembisa Classic, Moroka Swallows, Amazulu, Hellenic and Thanda Royal Zulu, and he was last in the books of United FC.
