Nedbank Cup semi-final draw

Brazilians to face Usuthu

Posted: 2010-05-10 14:01

AmaZulu are pitted against Mamelodi Sundown and Bidvest Wits against Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

The draw involving the last four team in the competition was conducted at The Venue in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, today.

Usuthu, who have lost in both the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout Cup semi-finals, will be hoping to make it third time lucky and advance to their first domestic cup final since 1992.

AmaZulu coach Neil Tovey is hoping that his team have learnt from their two earlier cup defeats this season.

"We need to learn from those previous semifinal losses and have to rise to the occasion against Sundowns. No matter who you draw at this stage of the competition it’s going to be difficult. We have faced tough opposition throughout the Nedbank Cup and we are looking forward to the challenge of facing Sundowns."

Tovey’s opposite number, Trott Moloto, hailed his team for their performance in the quarterfinal win against Orlando Pirates and believes that they face an equally tough encounter in the final four.

"There is no way we can start underestimating AmaZulu. Any team who have come this far need to be respected. Once more we are expecting a tough and challenging game, but we have to give it all we have as this is our last chance to win a trophy this season," explained Moloto.

Ea Lla Koto stand-in coach Themba Sithole could not be happier with the fact that his team have drawn the Clever Boys in their semi-final.

"We came to this draw hoping to avoid Sundowns, as we wanted to face either AmaZulu or Wits. We got what we wanted by being drawn with Wits, as I believe that Wits and AmaZulu are beatable.

"The team has been given a mandate to win the Nedbank Cup to redeem ourselves for what has been a disastrous season. If our approach for the game is good, it is possible for us to win it," said Sithole.

Both semi-finals will be played on Saturday, May 15. The Premier Soccer League Cup committee will confirm the venues and kick off times for the games later today.

Even if Soccer does not have therefore, maybe this NEDBANK is destined to come to Chlorkop.

To:Editor and kickoffers

My plea to SAFA can u please guys take our football SERIOUSLY and REPLAN OUR LEAGUE , so that we can see PSL going back to its glory days like in 1995/6 era. 16 teams have limited the selection of players for Bafana, things were better when we had a big pool of 18 teams, we can even make it 20 teams by nationalizing the PSL to all 9 provinces. Soccer attracts more crowds than rugby i.e. big derbies, cup finals. Currie Cup match between Boland and Pumas doesn’t make 2000 fans, same can be said between WP and Boland which is usually a lull of 7000 fans screaming in empty Newlands.

SOCCER IS WORLD'S NUMBER ONE SPORT SAFA AND SPORTS MINISTER MUST KNOW THIS. We can't continue being second class to rugby.

MY PROPOSAL PSL AFTER 2010 WC

PSL after 2010 can be designed in a way that every province has a team and of course preserving the existing big teams. PSL should be a provincial league with no relegation but sacking of coaches and players to Mvela, big sponsors can come in big numbers in our soccer as there would be no risk of sponsors losing out once their team is sacked to first division. Plus PSL can introduce television and marketing rights (to international channels)where PSL can be viewed all over Africa and Europe,Asia. This can bring people to stadiums and attract a lot of MONEY.

PSL PLAYER DEVELOPMENT AND LEAGUE STAGES:Should involve the ff.

*PSL(finished product)
*NFD/Mvela(u 21 & u23 development phase)
*Vodacom league( u17 -u20 development phase)
*High school(u 15-u19 development phase)
*Primary schools(u 12-u14 development phase)

Soccer Stadiums usage: (All these owned by SAFA and partially municipalities). Players playing here should be fully developed professionals.

1. Soccer city 95000 seater (Chiefs FC) Gauteng-Existing team
2. Orlando stadium 40 000 seater (Orlando Pirates FC) Gauteng-Existing team
3. Dobsonville 25 000 seater (Swallows FC) Gauteng-Existing team
4. Rand stadium 25 000 seater (Cosmos FC) Gauteng-Existing team
5. Wits Stadium 16 000 seater (Wits FC) Gauteng-Existing team
6. Superstadium 30 000 seater (Supersport & Sundowns FC)Tshwane-Existing teams
7. Peter Mokaba stadium 41 000 seater (Black Leopards FC) Limpopo-New team
8. Mbombela stadium 43 000 seater (Black Aces) Mpumalanga-Existing team
9. Royal Bafokeng 42 000 seater (Platinum Stars FC) North west-Existing team
10. Seisa Ramabodu 22 000 seater (Celtics FC) Free state-Existing team
11. Phuthaditjhaba stadium 25 000 seater (FS Stars FC) Free state-Existing team
12. Moses Mabhida 56 000 seater (Amazulu & Arrows FC) Kwa-Zulu Natal-Existing teams
13. Harry Gwala 18 000 seater (Maritzburg FC) Kwa-Zulu Natal -Existing team
14. Nelson Mandela Bay 44 000 seater (Bay United FC) Eastern Cape-New team
15. Cape Town Stadium 55 000 seater (Ajax FC) Western Cape-Existing team
16. Athlone Stadium 30 000 seater (Santos FC) Western Cape-Existing team
17. ABSA stadium Kimberly 20 000 seater (New team to be formed in Northern Cape) renting from rugby union.
18. Basil Kenyon 19 000 seater (New team to be formed in Eastern Cape) renting from rugby union.

Source:www.worldstadiums.com
NOTE: *All provinces are represented in this new league and facilities used properly. athletics, music concerts, rally’s or marathon events can also take place in these stadias. Rugby games can be allowed only when there’s big games.
Rugby Stadiums: *1.Coca Cola Park 2. Loftus 3. Newlands 4. Pumas 5. Sharks stadium 6. EPRU stadium(rugby must fix their own stadium) 7. Boland 8. Freestate stadium

MVELA LEAGUE(1st Division)
Aim here:To develop players for PSL.

Mvela league can be designed to be a 16 team development(preparatory)league where players are 80% under 21 and 20% over age players. This league can act as a FEEDER league to PSL teams and under 23s. Teams in PSL can be allowed to work in partnership with NFD teams like Sundowns & Tawana do.

* Johannesburg Stadium 30 000 seater, Gauteng (Former All Africa games athletics stadia-Still in good condition)
* Odi stadium 60 000 seater,North West (To be demolished its outdated)
* Moruleng stadium 30 000 seater,North West (soccer)
* Botshabelo stadium 25 000 seater, Free State (soccer)
* Olympia park stadium 30 000 seater,North West (soccer, athletics)
* Thohoyandou stadium 40 000 seater, Limpopo (soccer)
* Chatsworth stadium 35 000 seater,KZN (soccer)
* King Zwelithini stadium 25 000 seater , KZN (soccer)
* Pam Brink stadium 25 000 seater, Gauteng (soccer)
* Olen Park stadium 25 000 seater, North West (soccer)

Source:www.worldstadiums.com

Vodacom league (2nd Division)
Aim here:To develop players for NFD/Mvela.

Can be designed to be feeder league to Mvela. Teams playing here should from lower ranks made of high school kids and few experienced players. Schools regional leagues should feed this league.

Note:Small stadiums used.

If u are indeed a chiefs fan take a leaf from Pearl,Thabang and Brokefan who only comment abt soccer and nt insults. You and psl trophies are feathers of de same bird. Sies! Nibolile

Of course, this is a Good draw for Dawana as well as Wits. My best Final wishes is Downs vs Wits......then the Sundowns supporters can tell us; Who'll be crowned Nedbank Cup Champions!!

This is end of the road 4 da Cirus team 4rom Clownkop. Trott is tactically bankrupt and no doubt he won't outplan Neil Tovey, NEVER! AmaZulu r gonna lift da Nedbank Cup and pretenders will b reduced 2 silence as losers who have never tasted silverware dis season as usual...

Mreva: 2010-05-10 20:02

Trott please ask Baloyi to look at the penalty that was netted by pirates against him, it is not that he is not good at it but he made a blander by moving forward before taking the dive. Baloyi do not repeat that mistake agin. and please talk to Nyandoro he's too selfish and ask him to take time before he shoots.
