SuperSport United drop to Confederation Cup

Posted: 9 May 2010 Time: 19:17

Heartland claimed a comfortable 3-1 win over PSL champions SuperSport United to reach the CAF Champions League group stages with a 4-2 aggregate win.

The Nigerians were favourites to go through after a 1-1 result in the first leg two weeks ago, and SuperSport made matters easier for the hosts by only flying into Owerri from Lagos on the morning of the game.

The Nigerians wasted little time pressing home the advantage as Emeka Nwanna put them in front after 39 minutes.

Further goals were added by John Owoeri and Bello Musa Kofarmata in the five-minute spell as the Naze Millionaires sealed passage to the group stages.

Brian Umony grabbed a late consolation 10 minutes from time, but it was nothing more than that from SuperSport, who drop down to the Confederation Cup.

THE WIN OVER SOUTH AFRICANS IS NOT A SURPRISE. NIGERIA IS TOO MUCH FOR THEM,MAY BE THEIR COACH WILL PROTEST OVER AGE CHEAT,WE ARE WAITING. THE OTHER TIME,I ASKED SOUTH AFRICAN COACHES TO COME FOR COACHING COURSE IN NIGERIA BUT THEY DID NOT RESPOND. CONSIDER THIS,NIGERIANS GO TO BRASIL AND EUROPE FOR COACHING COURSE BICOS THEY ARE HIGHER THAN US,SOUTH AFRICANS SHOULD SWALLOW THEIR PRIDE AND COME TO NIGERIA SO WE CAN TEACH THEM THE ABC OF FOOTBALL.FOOTBALL GET MATE,RIDE ON NAIJA...............

HERE THEY COME AGAIN, CHEATS. OWERRI IS SEVERAL KILOMETERS FROM LAGOS, YET NO GOOD HOTEL IN OWERRI FOR OUR BOYS. THEY DIDNT EVEN INFORM US THAT OWERRI IS NOT IN LAGOS. THEY USED SEVERAL STRATEGIES, DIVING, OFFSIDE GOALS, INELIGIBLE PLAYERS, POOR PITCH AND ALSO BRIBED OFFICIALS. WHY CAN'T NIGERIA WIN ANY GAME ON FAIR PLAY?

Over in Nigeria, Uche Kalu's first half brace and Junior Osagie's strike in the 75th minute helped Enyimba to a 3-0 victory over DR Congo's AS Vita Club in Aba to force the game into penalties.

Trailing 3-0 from the first leg, Uche Kalu fired the former African Champions into the lead in the 29th minute. Ten minutes later the youngster added his second to the delight of the home fans.

Junior Osagie levelled the game on a 3-3 aggregate with his strike in the 75th minute.

Enyimba held their nerves to win 7-6 on penalties.
