Vermezovic – Khune is still number 1

Posted: 2010-04-29 15:04

Arthur Bartman's award for Telkom Knockout goalkeeper of the tournament has done little to elevate him to Kaizer Chiefs' number one keeper slot.

Speaking to KickOff.com at the Telkom Knockout awards function today Amakhosi head coach Vladimir Vermezovic maintains Itumeleng Khune is still the number one in his mind.

"I have said that Khune is the number one and Bartman is the number two. I still say that… I'm still behind what I said. There is nothing wrong with that, but I enjoy working with Bartman because he is an honest guy and he is always very serious," says Vermezovic. "Bartman knows his place at Kaizer Chiefs and he deserves his award," he says.

Bartman told KickOff.com he "respects" the coach's view on the matter and will be happy to deputize for Khune next season.

Vermezovic also made special mention of defender Dominic Isaacs, who walked away with the Telkom Knockout defender of the tournament.

"Dominic has worked very hard and when he got his chance he used it. He had an excellent tournament and he fully deserves his award," he says.

The Serbian has further warned the award recipients to enjoy it while it lasts.

"For next season their prizes will mean nothing to me. They will have to work hard like the other guys and they must enjoy it until July, but after that it is work again," concludes Vermezovic.

This is the coach that everyone in that Khosi family called "the special one", look at how he mixes joy with unnecessary comments. What has Khune's being number 1 keeper got to do with Bartman's award? You missed it big time there coach.

He should learn not to answer every question posed by the journalists, typical of the overrated coaches and teams. What about that Pearly little diny.

Please give VV a break for now. TTM should post the exact questions he asked VV so we can conclude. Yes Jacob, reading it the way TTM puts it, it makes VV look somehow unwise, but I will put my judgment when I see the exact questions...

so coach, khune is no1 and daznt have to work hard like other players....lol...this coach is a joke!!!!hahaha, instead of congratulating Sarah, he tell him that you may win all your little medals and what not...but u will be benched when Khune comes back...hope khune will not get big headed by this...for his own sake of course!!!

Do you want the m****cript of the interview to put things in perspective? TTM please help, I thought Jacob's got depth but surely he is just like Sunflops - depthless.

Stonza: 2010-04-29 15:45

Good point but Khune has worked for his place in the team thats why he is with Bafana Bafana. Bartman knows why he was called to deputise for Khune, he has even went up the list to Number 2 passing Metsimetsi and Thela Ngobeni.

He is a professional and you are taking the coaches comment out of context.

VV keeps saying Khune is the number 1 and I asked him if he has changed his mind now that Bartman has won this award, proving he's done well. I then asked Bartman how he feels about what the coach keeps saying about Khune being the number 1 when he (Bartman) has done so well and he replied. But I don't think it makes VV unwise, it simply means he is a man of his word.

G.Leremi 7: 2010-04-29 15:54

VV's comments are uncalled-for! Who doesn't know Khune left here as No.1! He's a de-motivator. Does he think Bartman's supporters want to hear all these?
Well done boys - I'll NEVER be Chief's supporter, but I love dedicated players.

Nothing wrong here..every team u have the number 1 and the number 2 respectively that’s how it works stop crucifying VV,

Man United have Edwin as number 1..its their policy. So does real Madrid with Iker and Chelsea with Peter Liverpool with Pepe..the list is endless

Sometimes its good for people to know and respect their places ..

Oderwise Bartaman did very well in the absence of Khune weel done that’s what its expected anyway

TTM dont suck up to these chips fans plz....he is not the man of his word, maybe stupid, yes!!!
you cant tell your players that they are deputies to others as if you have players that are guaranteed for a 1st 11 spot....treat them the same or at least pretend so as to keep the moral...He says wot they accomplished this season mins nothing they still have to work hard, but for Khune he has his spot as number1...am not taking anything away from khune...but a better ansa "could have been" ...('the number1 spot will depend on who works hard next season') yes in his mind he might know that he prefers Khune and believes that he wont drop perfomance...but thats nothing to tell the media nog al!!!!No No NO

Yes that is true, you have your prefered players, but you dnt tell their deputies that when they win achievement medals, that it mins nothing you have your prefered players....no but instaed you tell your players to fight for a place no1 is guaranteed...

You guys laughed when Bartman was given a contract by Chiefs calling him names. Some of us Chiefs supporters were not happy with the decision either.

His age is against him and that is why he has played with commitment and over achieved.

Why would you have a 40 year old as your number 1 if you want continuity? His place is to groom and assist Khune. I have not heard even one person calling for Bartman to be included in BB even when he has been outstanding.

The coach is simply putting things in perspective. Would he be wrong to say that Ace Khuse and Arthur Zwane are his deputies? Would he be demoralising them? Please men think before you open that halistosed mouth of yours.

Can this be the only thing that VV said about the two goalkeepers? I say this because he might have been quoted out of context here. Journalists do like to make a story even where there's none and I won't be surprised that this is just one of those chances where he/she wants to sow division within the goalkeepers.

Your reporting is always biased when coming to my beloved team. I wionder ukuthi wena which team do you support.

Khune is no 1 even in Bafana Bafana, so what is this noise all about? Morons!

Reading it without those questions makes him look somehow...But now that you have given us the exact manner in which you asked the Serbian, I can conclude he is still the best foreign coach in the country.

I love every PSL team man. I was just asking an innocent question. I'm not the type of Journalist who will leave the comfort of the office to go ask questions like "How do you feel that Bartman and Isaacs won the awards?". I try to ask questions that gives us the answers we want.

It makes sense: Bartman is 40 and Khune is only 1/2 Bartman's age.

I was called names once by some in this forum for stating that Ch!mps supporters are not different from the supporters of the ANC (btw, i voted for them), they are just psycophants sheeps that have no independent thought whatsoever. The only criteria for them on any story is just the source where it emanates from and not the content. As long it is from somebody from Ch!mps, they applaud irrespective of the content of his comments, check all the posting from all Ch!mps stories for evidence, they always remind of Malema and his defenders.

The coach was just plain insencitive and unfair to Bartman, everybody goes to training to earn the number one spot in the team, when he gets a chance and plays as well as that old crok did, the least you can do is be gentlemen enough not to embarass the guy. The coach was out of line period, its true Khune is currently the number one in the country and at Chimps, but coming from the coach in Arthur hour of glory was just plain dumb!

Smallicious : 2010-04-29 20:44

Yes Khunene is no 1 so what?

Maestro KC: 2010-04-29 21:28

Wonder : 2010-04-29 19:29

I really appreciate your view and from where you stand (from a very low point of view) I understand why your facts are enticing to you.

This is not about Malema and the comparison is not warranted since Malema used to be a boxer and not a soccer player but I understand.

Some (like yourself and other myopic commentators) would like to believe that the coach was insensitive about stating the obvious. Maybe in your unachieving team, things like these are not said with honesty but with ATTITUDE or STYLE.

VV is in charge of the players not the team manager or the has-been pro.

Relax man! You don't have to explain yourself if you love or hate Chiefs. You have the rights to hate/love Chiefs. VV has said it, whether we like it or not Khune is no 1 @ Chiefs. We can ask whatever intelligent or jounalistic questions we want, but He (Khune) will remain nommer uno.

Remember TTM, Baartman knows his initial mandate when he was called by Bob Steak to join iKhosi that Khune was injured and Chiefs needed someone matured with PSL experienced. So that is not going to change because, by the way he got the awards when khune was away with BB.

Hahaha eish I see people having heart attacks ngeKaizer Chiefs…. TTM… don’t worry my man. or some good news for the Chiefs fans… Chiefs will be playing in the OK Cup this weekend since they are out of the Nedbank Cup… tickets will be sold eOK… Bobsteak said this game if to keep the players fit ahead of the OMO Cup… hehehe

Pastor Thakhula for Bakaniya: 2010-10-11 15:37

yes it is true khune is SA number one and chiefs no 1..is this coach trying to tell us bartman doesn't deserve this award?? some coaches are not supportive to their players. how could a matured man say that?? i gues this coach has also cheated on his age..he might be 20..lol, age cheating family..bobby, how old are you??
