Fanteni: Bucs not taking Tawana lightly

Posted: 2010-04-28 14:27

On paper, Orlando Pirates will be favourites when they host minnows Als Puk Tawana in Saturday evening's Nedbank Cup last 16 fixture, but striker Thembinkosi Fanteni says the Bucs will not take the Second Division side lightly.

Tawana dumped Platinum Stars 3-2 at Olen Park in their last 32 fixture and Fanteni says that on its own shows how dangerous the rookies can be if underestimated.

"They are a lower division side and we are a PSL team, but that is where the difference ends," says Fanteni.

"The game against them will not be easy because by beating Platinum Stars, they proved that they are a very good and dangerous team. We are not going to underestimate them because they can cause an upset, which we do not want."

The Bucs' striker says the fact that both Dinaledi and Telkom Knockout Cup champions Kaizer Chiefs have been booted out by minnow’s shows that the Nedbank Cup is a tournament of surprises, and warns his teammates against taking a casual approach in Saturday's game.

"Every team remaining in this competition is capable of beating another and the best way to progress is to prepare well, which is something we have been doing here. I will feel that we are favourites when we reach the semi-finals or final, not at this stage."

That's the correct attitude Fanty. We don't want an embarrassment here like what happened in Botshabelo last sunday.

Sure Mpintshi respecting other teams is important, and i believe that is the entire team's attitude going forward to that game. Otherwise we will find ourselves waiting for the pre-season games in four months time like khosification, khosi lami, special one, cup specialist. Viva FC......
