A 90th minute strike by James Chamanga handed Moroka Swallows a 1-0 win over Black Leopards in an Absa Premier League match at Germiston Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
It was a dull match, with chances far and few between.
The first chance of the game arrived in the 15th minute when Japhet Zwane weaved his way through three defenders before offloading to Sandile Ndlovu inside the area, but the lanky striker sent his effort over the bar.
Zwane then had an effort cleared by Mayasisilua Lubanzadio in the 22nd minute after Leopards’ keeper Mashudu Mamphitha missed a cross.
Ndlovu should have put The Birds ahead in the 39th minute when he sent a Zwane cross well wide of goal from close range.
Myron Shongwe wasted a glorious chance to put Leopards ahead in the 42nd minute when he ran clear on goal, but the striker’s final touch was poor, allowing Swallows keeper Aubrey Mathibe to make the save.
The match remained goalless at the break.
The opening stages of the second half was poor, although Leopards did look the stronger of the two sides.
Shongwe again failed to score in the 70th minute when he again ran clear on goal, but his hesitancy allowed Birds’ defender Bevan Fransman to put in a superb tackle.
Just as it seemed as though the match was headed for a draw, Chamanga popped up to head home from a free-kick, handing Swallows the points.
