Youth development FC CT's priority

Youth development is FC Cape Town's number one priority says club CEO Errol Dicks.

The First Division side made the country sit up and take notice when they shocked Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 in the Nedbank Cup last 16 on Sunday.

"It was great to give our youngsters this kind of exposure on this kind of stage. Ten players from the squad that played yesterday were under 21 years of age and the experience they got was priceless," said Dicks.

The Cape side were formed in 2006 when they bought out Vasco da Gama's First Division franchise.

Dicks had been a board member at Vasco but decided it best to form a breakaway club.

"I had my own vision for the future of Cape Town and South African soccer and we could not come to agreement on this so I decided to start a new club.

"FC Cape Town is all about youth development. At our Yebo headquarters we house, feed and develop the young players holistically.

"I have a good network in Europe and our aim is to develop players who are not only talented enough to make the grade over there, but also strong enough mentally to withstand the challenges.

"We want to give youngsters the chance to change their lives and their families' lives.

"Of course we also have ambitions to play in the PSL, but there is a fine balance between trying to achieve this and ensuring that youth development remains our priority," explains Dicks.

You guys are on a right track. You have done very well yesterday. You also deserve to play in the PSL. The problem with the PSL is that it is not giving teams that are from first division any chance to compete to PSL due to these playoffs that still do not make any sense to me.

Beating Chiefs has its perks..so much media coverage, im sure Sundowns are jealous hehe

I am still shocked. Honestly the journey from Botshabelo to Jo'burg was longer than usual for me. As much as I agree FC Cape Town did well I attribute their shocking result to the fact that Chiefs does not have depth. When Musona is available for selection he is played alone upfront and when he is not there he is replaced by 3 good for nothing veterians, NHLEKO, MOTAUNG and JOSE. Chiefs must buy quality players. Yesterday's game proved us WRONG that we claim we are NOT A ONE MAN TEAM.

We (Sundowns) jealous Pearl.....for what exactly?
Don't take frustration into Sundowns
They have nothing to do with FC Capetown's vision

Bigman: 2010-04-26 15:04

When you win you don't realize you don't have depth
You insult everyone not Chiefs

Hallo Pearl, whether Sundowns are happy or not (I am sure they are though), we were expossed yesterday. I still don't understand why we played with 4 deffenders for 90 minutes when FC Cape Town were clearly not interested in going forward. By the way where are those boys who were promoted to the senior team this season? As for Nhleko and Motaung jnr, if they cannot be released to other teams the BEST that can be done for them which will beneffit Chief supporters is for them to be sent to the Under 13 development side so they can be taught some basics about football. Then after 6 years or so they can be promoted to the senior side, one as a bouncer in the security department and the other as a German translator in case we have another Germany coach or even a modeler. NXE...!!!!

Just like I've been saying. I physically there in Bots Stadium. There was no difference between FC Cape town and Chiefs in the field of play. PSL teams are no different to Mvela or Voda team and I wonder why?. Chelsea beat stroke city 7-0 to show the lower teams that they are the best. But here in SA, our PSL is not creating any competition amongst teams. We need 18 teams and bottom two must get relegated while top 2 from Mvela must get automatic promotion. Please can someone help us with this.

Maxwell so u knw. Bcause statistics dont lie, there is a difference between the lower leagues and the psl, 80percent of teams who r promoted in2 the psl get relegated within that same season or the following season. You dont hav to look far, jomo cosmos, bay united, thanda royal for eg. Althou i do agree the level of difference isnt that vast as in otha countries, bt its still 11 against 11 and real madrid were knockd out of the kings cup by a lower division team and so was bayern munich in their domestic cup. Shocks do happen in football, bt you cnt base ur argument of da standard of football on that. Its misguided, but psl need to go bk to 18 teams in the league. They shortned them for the world cup, and now thats its gonna come and go, it should revert back and do away with play offs
