Musa sacrifices goals target for Eagles

Posted: 2010-04-21 15:39

Nigeria Premier League top scorer Ahmed Musa has revised his goals target for the season after getting his first senior international call-up.

Musa, who is having a breakout season with Kano Pillars, had originally set a 20-goal target for himself this season. That figure would have obliterated the current 17-goal record set by Ishaya Jatau in 1993 and equalled by Akarandut Orok last season.

"I wanted to score 20 goals this season, and I believe I would have made it, with the way I am going," Musa, who is officially on 14 goals, told KickOffNigeria.com. "But now, I don’t think I can make it anymore.

"I will miss some matches when I go to the Super Eagles camp, and the league is almost over so it will be difficult to come back and score the goals to reach 20."

But the 17 year-old is happy to sacrifice his goals target if it gives him a chance to get in on Lars Lagerback's World Cup squad.

"I have confidence in the way I am playing, and I knew I will be invited. So I don’t mind if I don’t score the 20 goals, because playing for the national team is the dream of every player and I am happy that I got the invitation to come to camp."

With the plethora of Europe-based strikers at Lagerback's disposal, Musa is taking nothing for granted, just hoping that his abilities will see him through.

"I will try my best to make it. I know that I have good speed, and I like taking on defenders, I can cross the ball well and I can score goals. But it is the coach that will decide."

On the basis of what Ahmed has showed in the league and the recent WAFU Cup, Lagerback's job just got even harder.

So ahmed Musa was born in 1992? Seriously?

Ronaldo87: 2010-04-21 16:02

I don't mind if he goes to the World Cup. He's at the peak of his Career and definitely not 17.

Ronaldo87: 2010-04-21 16:04

He'll join the likes of Agahowa and Ikedia in 2yrs on retirement and we'll all be asking where is Musa?

Ola: 2010-04-21 16:51

@Sean & Ronaldo, accusing person wrongly is a serious offence under law,u don't know this guy, and thus u can so confidently says he is more than 17 yrs. Don't forget that not everybody is a cheater, and this guy profile can actually support his age. Kano pillars is the only professional that he plays for and started his career in 2008 with a football academy, so how can u prove that he is more than his official age? pls guys lets learn how to respect and support our own. Thanks

Nija peeps too negative

why do people always negative, when somebody say thier age, people are like they are overage. Is it because we as nigerians are so corrupt and negative that we feel their not enough honest people in our contry ?

This guy plays for the senior team, and if i can recollect their are no age limits, nigeria people just need to trust some1 sometime and stop all dis foolisheness thats making our country look bade.

PS IT WOULD BE NICE IF KON CAN GET THE GUY PICTURES NEXT TIME

World Cup hosts South Africa and North Korea will meet in a friendly in the Frankfurt, Germany on Thursday as both teams build up for June's finals.

I thought the NFF said the North Koreans cannot play in Europe? So in Nigeria when people mention europe its definitely UK. Colonial mentality and idiots ruling football. They have Latvia on their list and Ghana has confirmed a friendly already.
Anyway Niger is always available.

Good baller with sublime skill.Good off the ball movement too.with a little hardwork,u will break into the world cup team.U are a star in the making and I ve been following ur rise.Koformata almost stole this guys shine in Kano Pillars, like Rooney and Ronaldo, wen Korformata left he rose to d occasion to become d star player in that team.

He is one we should put our eyes on.He is not like Worgu, this ones got game, and can make dat world cup team ahead of established stars,he just need the big match pep talk.

If the young man started his career in 2008, I think he's nearer 17 than forumites believe. The fact that some people cheat doesn't mean
everyone does! At 17, I was already 6ft. tall & an undergraduate. Most colleagues refused to believe my age. Let's give this boy the benefit of doubt people!
