Celebrations could have wrecked Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs' Nedbank Cup victory

Posted: 19 April 2010 Time: 10:33 am

Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic says that his players' celebrations after winning the Telkom Knockout Cup could easily have led to their downfall going into the the Nedbank Cup clash against SuperSport United.

VV said it was always going to be difficult to get the players into right frame of mind after winning the Telkom Cup Final against Ajax Cape Town in Durban last weekend.

"(Gavin) Hunt knows better than me because he has won the League three times, but in my opinion the first game after winning a Cup is the most difficult.

"My players celebrated for two or three days after winning the Telkom Cup and this made my job of preparing them for this game difficult.

"For me, this has been it a nice win for us. They (SupersSport) beat us twice in the League and now we beat them here at the Rand stadium.

"I agree with Hunt that he was missing a number of players, but for me SuperSport is SuperSport. I don't care who plays for SuperSport... SuperSport is a big club."

VV also praised his players for showing great character, especially after winning the Telkom Knockout Final against Ajax Cape Town last weekend.

"Maybe it was good that we had to play against SuperSport; maybe if it was a smaller team who knows? But I think my boys' attitude was very good - especially in the second half.

"For us it was a very important game because my players had to prove that they are not players for only one game after winning the Telkom Knockout Final.

"People talk about the mentality of South African players, but I saw today that my players are very professional," he adds.

Anyway..thats true VV..for the first few minutes the performance was shaky adn fatigue is also a factor, but we won coz we were the better team on the day..get that..as for Brian Mathe..lets just leave it there

KC's form is something that will be gone sooner rather than later. It's good for the supporters to make a noise now because they realise that they will have to shut up soon.It is a fake form like the one Papic introduced at Pirates sometimes ago.

The WIN against SSU is worrying, cause once Chiefs win their first game, they will win the Cup. I am Pirates fan but VV seem to be getting everything correct. Chiefs will win Nedbank cup unless the Conflict of interest emerge from Standard Bank.

@Andy: You are unreasonable - Chiefs is nothing similar 2 Papic & Pie-sebono - in short no-silverware IS NOT Equal To tons-of-silverware. So who's fake?
