Ahmed Musa shoots Nigeria to WAFU Cup Final

Posted: 16 April 2010 Time: 21:08

League top scorer Ahmed Musa's goal deep into extra-time shot Nigeria's Super Eagles B into the Final of the WAFU Cup tournament in Abeokuta.

Having scored 11 goals prior to this game, the Nigerians were widely expected to run roughshod over the team which lost 4-0 to Ghana in their final group game two days earlier, but the Burkinabes were in no mood to give out any more presents and pushed the Nigerians hard.

Regulation time finished with neither side able to find the net, and the game went into extra-time.

The first half of extra time was as cagey as the preceding 90 minutes and it took a swift and decisive counter attack launched by defender Ike ThankGod to swing the game.

The Burkinabes won a free-kick just outside the Nigeria area, and as the well struck effort came off the Nigeria cross bar, Heartland defender Ike picked up the ball and loped into the opposition half.

Musa kept pace with him and as the defender swept the ball into his path, the Kano Pillars man rifled in a daisy-cutter from 20-yards that skimmed its way across the goalkeepers and into his left post.

Nigeria moved through to the final, while Burkina Faso awaits the losers of the second semifinal between Ghana and Senegal. That game was originally due to be played before the Nigeria game, but had to be moved as the South African Under -17 team women's team trained on the pitch for their allotted hour before tomorrow's World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

Nigeria Line-up: Akpan Bassey, Suswan Terna, Mutiu Adegoke, Reuben Gabriel, Ike ThankGod, Promise Onuh, Ahmed Musa, Solomon Okpako, Uche Nwofor (Eugene Salami 90), Bartholomew Ibenegbu (Chinedu Ezimorah 115), Gbolahan Salami (Ejike Uzoenyi 55)

One thing I noted is that the much acclaimed Chibuzor has not been fielded at all in this competition and this same guy felt that we lost the.first leg

what type of useless arrangement. There are so many stadia in Nigeria, but all matches are being played in Abeokuta? , WAFU, World cup qualifier, NPL, FA cup. Why not reschedule other games to other states.

@Ronaldo ,if u are really a Ghanaian like the rest of your Naija haters( ur Zulu brodas from the south too) , you definitely are suffering from Inferiority complex so much that you had to come all the way to a Nigerian website to post a comment . Am sure there are one or two Ghanaian websites but you'll never see Nigerians on it ,we have better things to do with our lives . You just had to attach yourself to Nigerians all the time. You pack of losers... make haste and get a life cos we don't care about your dick head.

What ever happened that missing $238 million dollars? Only in Nigeria would something like that happen and no one is been held accountable. "Nigeria, what a country!!!" Are we that rich or that corrupt? The whole lot of the NFF and Sports Ministry Commission should be in jail!

Pls @ronaldo87 has not said anything offensive to attract all these abuses. He only predicted that his team will beat Nigeria and football rivalry is part of the fun of the game. I don't think Ghananians are Nigeria-haters like the South Africans so there is no need for the abuses.

I am very impressed by the results so far from the Home Eagles.

» WAFU: Senegal down Ghana to make final
Reads: 134 Comments: 0 Friday, April 16th, 2010 at 20:20
Senegal beat 10-man Ghana 3:1 at the MKO Abiola International Stadium Abeokuta this evening, to reach the final of the West African Football Union [WAFU] Cup.

The Teranga Lions took the lead on 18 minutes through a Babaca Ndou penalty, but Idan Bismarck resorted parity for the Black Stars in the second half.

The game went into extra-time where more drama was to follow. Ghana's Richard Annan was given a red card three minutes into the second half of extra-time, and Senegal took full advantage of their numerical advantage to take the lead five minutes later through Ba Alfa.

Mustapha Cisse sealed the win for Senegal with a minute left of play. They will meet Nigeria in the final on Sunday in a rematch of the group stage encounter which the Super Eagles won 2:1.

Actually no one thinks Ghananians are Nigerian haters, unless they really are. As for Nigerians, i'm very sure we don't hate Ghananians, we are just football Rivals, nothing much. But honestly i have heard from a Dutch person who lived in Ghana for a while, She said that Ghananians hate Nigeria and Nigerians and that they would always tell her never to go or even trust Nigerians. I was baffled at first, but later, i calmed down. She knows i'm Nigerian and told me about that when she realised i was just the opposite of what the Ghananian said. Just because there are some bad Nigerians, doesn't mean that we are all bad. Anyway, no Hate brothers.
