Super Eagles win in WAFU Cup

Eagles keep 100% record

Posted: 2010-04-13 21:05

Nigeria's local Super Eagles came from a goal down at half time to beat Senegal 2-1 and confirm their place as group winners going into the semifinals of the WAFU Cup tournament in Abeokuta.

With a semi-final place already assured, Daniel Amokachi made several changes to his regular starting eleven in his final group game, and the gamble seemed set to backfire when his second string team went behind in the first half.

Amokachi was forced to thrown on Ikechukwu Ibenegbu and Gbolahan Salami in the second half. The Heartland man was quick to justify his inclusion, drawing the Super Eagles level, before the second substitute Salami secured victory.

The win keeps Nigeria's perfect record intact, and also keeps them on course for a meeting with Ghana in the Final.

The Black Stars won the Under-20 event which preceded this tournament and are favourites, along with Nigeria, for the title.

The word.: 2010-04-14 02:16

Is anybody taking note of this guy Ikechukwu Ibenegbu? I have not seen him play but remember he promised to make the Angola teamn if given an equal chance to compete. He's certainly confirming his boast by these sterling performances in the WAFU cup.

So What Happened against the Menas of Niger if this guys are this good? Guinea, Senegal are great footballing Nations.

Doing well in WAFU is good, but i feel we are just majoring on a minor...
I would have luvd to see the Green and white in that bigger scene in Sudan.

@Prince, do u really need to abuse me in your caution against @kele. It's improper and if anyone made any comment you don't like just pass by and post your own if you will. Your use of gutter language shows the kind of character you're made.

If Kanu is leaving Portsmouth, he should be persuaded to come play for sometime in our local league and shore up it's image rather than looking for a place in the WC. Yekini, Amokachie & co did it.

Bob marley of blessed memory once sang the song, He who fights and run away lives to fight another day. Daniel Amokachi is fighting again after the CHAN disgrace. Lets hope he fights well now. Anything short of the WAFU cup will be regarded as a failure as its already being views as a fall from grace to grass.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH
