Rovers promoted to First Division

Blackburn Rovers from Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape have reached the National First Division after an easy 3-0 victory over Island FC on Saturday at the Vodacom Second Division national play-offs in Mpumalanga province.

Rovers won promotion after clinching the Coastal Stream by two points from Mitchell’s Plain, who humiliated Kakamus Sundowns 11-0 to finish above Roses United on goal difference.

They will now meet Inland Stream winners, FC AK of Gauteng, during the Final scheduled for Ackerville Stadium in Witbank on Sunday.

However, the club has also announced that they are seeking a new head coach following the resignation of Kenny Tofi just prior to the play-offs.

“We have a vacant position for a head coach, I need an experienced man to work with Luxolo Matinkica and David Sebambani, who did a great job in helping us gain promotion,” says Rovers director Dumisani Mcedani.

“A big thank you to everybody in East London and all surrounding areas that supported us throughout the season, we want to assure them that we will not disappoint them in the NFD.”
