Injured Ajax Cape Town skipper Brett Evans, ruled out of the Telkom Knockout Cup Final this weekend, has described the current season as his worst ever.
The Johannesburg-born defender also tells KickOff.com that his season is over as he will not take part in any of Ajax's matches in 2009/10.
Evans' season has been hampered by a groin injury that limited his appearances and saw his chances of representing Bafana Bafana in the World Cup in winter go up in smoke.
"I can say this has been my worst season ever since turning professional. I am passionate about playing football, but this season, injury denied me that opportunity. As things stand, my season is over. I am disappointed," the player, who has now started light training with the Urban Warriors, says.
Evans will not take part in the Telkom Knockout Cup Final against Kaizer Chiefs having previously missed out on the MTN8 Final that Ajax lost 6-1 to a rampant Golden Arrows in Johannesburg.
He forecast a better performance from his teammates on Saturday although he admits Chiefs will be a hard nut to crack.
"Chiefs have been playing well and are an organised team that has the experience," he says.
"They are a tough team to break down but we have to win this one to make up for a disappointing season. We have the talent in all departments. We have the players that can do the job and die for the team.
"It is good to see Stanton Lewis scoring goals again, which is a major boost to the team. As for me, I am disappointed in not playing the Final in Durban. I have good memories having won the Absa Cup Final there in 2007," the 28-year-old, who was part of the side Muhsin Etugral guided to victory over Mamelodi Sundowns, says.
