Wolves win, Enyimba lose

Warri Wolves left it late before claiming a handsome win against Zambia's Zesco in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday. But Enyimba's first foray into CAF's second tier competition got off to a nightmare start.

Wolves just about edged a first half where both sides looked evenly matched but failed to find a goal.

Coach Lawrence Akpokona was forced to make two substitutions in the second half, with Gift Atulewa in for Mbachu Tochukwu and Temile Omonigho making way for Oke Akpoveta.

That swung the tide firmly towards the home side, but it was not until the 73rd minute that the breakthrough came. And it was the substitutes who combined with Atulewa delivering a cross for Fengor Ogude to head home.

Atulewa returned three minutes later to tap in Ifeanyi Okoye's low cross, before applyng the coup de grace with a splendid free-kick on 83 minutes to seal a comfortable, if largely nervy win.

In Angola, it was not such good news for Enyimba, who were beaten 2-0 by Angola's Academia and now have a mountain to climb as they seek to add a Confederation Cup title to their two CAF Champions League trophies.

Messi scored another hat-trick in Bercelona's win over Real Zaragoza. That brings his goal tally to 8 just in a week.

Peter Utaka was on the score sheet as his club OB Odense recorded a two nil win over AGF Aarhus.

Taiye Taiwo was also on song as his club M****ille coasted over Lyon with 2-1 win.

I hope Las Lagerback is watching.

Young Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi and defender N****wo Obiora were in action for Inter as they crushed AC Milan's youth team 4:1 in the Italian Campionato Primavera on Saturday. Playing for Milan was another Nigerian, striker Nnamdi Oduamadi, and Ghana's U-20 World Cup top scorer Dominic Adiyiah.

The win lifted Inter to within four points of their city rivals, who lead the Primavera on 45 points, with three games left to play.

According to a report on inter.it, Obi [Pictured right] scored Inter's second goal in the 28th minute, after Mattia Destro put them ahead through a penalty four minutes earlier.

Adiyiah reduced the tally with a deflected short just after the half hour mark, but Michele Rigione made it three for Inter three minutes before the break. Substitute Samuele Beretta capped the rout with a solo effort on 83 minutes.

The Campionato Primavera is an Italian youth competition involving U-20 players of all Serie A and Serie B teams. Two overaged players are allowed in the eliminatory phase of the competition.

Nigeria midfielder Oluwafemi Ajilore scored the only goal of the match as FC Groningen beat Roda FC 1:0 in the Dutch Eredivisie. The win ensured that Groningen held on to 8th place, which keeps them on course for the Dutch Europa Cup play-offs.

The visitors had hardly settled when Ajilore opened scoring, heading in at the far post from Mike Zonneveld's corner in the 2nd minute. The 25-year old has now scored three goals in his last two games.

Last weekend Ajilore also scored a brace when the Northern club beat NAC Breda 0:3 away from home. Groningen have been in great form in recent times, winning five of their last six games and drawing one.

Hmmm, he is probably not far wrong!

"I think he will play until he is 51. That is in two years," Pompey boss Avram Grant on Kanu.

Every country Knows how to respect their football hero except Nigeria.
useless old men like @Billion will keep insulting kanu Nwakwo who has served this ungreatful nation well yet peple like him will rain abuses on him.
Go to France, they worship Zidane and all their stars same in Uk with Beckham even in Ivory coast but in Nigeria the story is different.
Kanu is 50,he is 51 no some say he is 42.....nobody at the age that age can play football..Kanu finished secondary school in 1991 at owerri then if you do the calculation you will know he is not as old as useless men like @billion will make us to believe and still scoring goals and playing better.
Old players retires after a major competion like WC Kanu will do same but for now he remain the captain of SE and nobody can change that fact.

eze: 2010-03-22 12:29

If we fail to encourage our old stars like Kanu...then do not expect 100% commitment from the young players because they know you will treat them bad tomorrow.
People should leave Papilo alone.
@billion your entire family can not do half of what Kanu has done in this country.
stop hating and insulting your legend because Kanu is and will always be.

eze: 2010-03-22 12:35

@simeo God bless you... and people like u.
Every team goes to WC with one or two old experienced players...Instead of insulting Kanu he should be encouraged.

Madu: 2010-03-22 13:45
