Kumasi Asante Kotoko defender Gideon Baah will be out of football for up to eight months after he had surgery on a broken leg, the club's doctor Kwaku Boateng has confirmed.

Baah underwent the operation at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi on Thursday and now faces the long road to recovery.

The player sustained the injury in a tackle with Hearts of Oak's Samuel Affum in their league game at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi last Sunday.

The injury has provoked widespread sympathy in Ghana football with the Ghana Football Association and the Professional League Board issuing a joint statement to wish him a speedy recovery.

But they also used the statement to caution against overzealous tackles that may lead to serious injuries.

"The Ghana Football Association and the Premier League Board, wish to caution players in the teams competing in the on-going GLO Premier League to be mindful of injuries that occur due to cynical or accidental tackles and over zealousness.

"The League needs all registered players who must stay healthy, physically fit and alive even as the competition has entered the twilight period.”
