Goals galore in Limpopo

Female football talent put their best foot forward at the Sasol League Road Show in Limpopo on Sunday.

Brazilians and Ma Indies beat the Limpopo heat and survived the challenge laid down before them to further entrench their positions at the top of the respective A and B stream logs for the 2009/2010 Sasol League season, as the winning Sasol League Road Show mix took the Hlogotlou Stadium, near Monsterlus, by storm on Saturday.

Augustine Makalakalane, coach of the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana, was present to conduct a coaches’ coaching course and to survey any potential national squad talent from the 90 players who took part in the Player Trials session.

As far as action-packed Sasol League football was concerned, Makalakalane chose the right day to be at Monsterlus, as Ngoanamokobane Baloyi scored a hat-trick, and Banyana Banyana star Noko Matlou added two goals as the Brazilians crushed Re Tiadira 5-0 to move to 39 points from 13 matches at the top of the Sasol League A stream log.

Baloyi’s effort also earned her the Sasol Diski Queen player of the match award and has reduced second-of-the-log Mphahlele’s title chances to a far remote mathematical one. Going into the weekend’s matches, Mphahlele were on 33 points from 12 games.

Just one point separated Ma Indies and Vunza at the start of their Sasol League B stream top-of-the-table fixture, and despite dominating possession for most of the match, Ma Indies were made to sweat in their 3-2 win, which secured them the three valuable points to take them to 35 points from 13 games.

Two goals from Disebo Mametsa and a strike from Molatelo Sebata did the damage for Ma Indies, while Vunza (now on 31 points from 13 games), scored twice via Monikana Phademe – the second being a magnificent curling free-kick struck from 25 metres out.

Ma Indies captain Amukelani Musengi deservedly collected the Sasol Diski Queen award.

Following the Players Trials conducted by Banyana Banyana coach Makalakalane earlier in the day, the following players were shortlisted for possible future addition to the national squads:

Nthabiseng Maleka (Right wing) Mphahlele
Selepe Letlego (Striker) Mokopane Academy
Rosetta Monama (Defender) Mahwelereng United
Maoto Emeralber (Striker) Chipas
Kgadi Mphahlele (Defender) Mphahlele
Maria Masete (Goalkeeper) Mphahlele
Holofelang Manyoma (Striker) Mokopane Academy

Happy Maloka (Goalkeeper) Vunza
