Orlando Pirates will refund supporters who failed to gain entry to the Soweto Derby match against Kaizer Chiefs.
Some supporters were turned away despite having valid tickets on February 20 at the Orlando Stadium and 21 days later, the club, after promising to act on the "embarrassment", has finally taken a decision.
"Orlando Pirates Football Club wishes to inform supporters who were turned away despite having a valid match ticket, that they will be fully refunded. This only applies to supporters who purchased their match tickets from Computicket and/or Shoprite Checkers outlets. To claim a refund, supporters are requested to bring their valid tickets to the Orlando Pirates head office in Parktown, where each ticket will be verified for authenticity.
"Unfortunately there will be no refund for any damaged tickets. The final day to claim a refund is Thursday, March 18," a club statement reads.
Bucs' management revealed in a statement on February 23 that it had "received a number of calls and emails from disgruntled supporters who were turned away from the stadium despite having valid tickets."
KICK OFF'S VIEW ON THE MATTER
"It is unfair to the many supporters who were turned away. Firstly, how much did those supporters spend on transport to get to the Stadium and secondly, how much will they spend on transport again to go collect the refund in Parktown, depending on where you are of course?
We can't confirm it yet, but tickets for the match apparently cost R40 each. Basically, chances are you will spend more than the refund if you stay far away from Parktown."
Bucs administrator Floyd Mbele could not be reached for comment.
