Tanzanian national team coach Brazilian Marcio Maximo is being touted to replace Dutchman Ruud Krol at Orlando Pirates next season.
Maximo's contract with the Taifa Stars expires in July and will not be renewed, however there reports that the Brazilian tactician is increasingly receiving offers from top clubs, including the Buccaneers and and Ghana's Accra Hearts of Oak.
According to a report posted in Goal.com, the Soweto giants have already arranged to meet Maximo for contract discussions.
While the Brazilian is yet to officially respond to an earlier offer from an Israeli club, he has also been offered the chance to train Premier League teams in United Arab Emirates and Brazil.
Maximo was a member of the technical team that coached Brazil’s Under-17 and Under-20 sides staff from 1992 until 1993. The teams included the future stars like Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.
He joined Scottish club Livingston FC in 2003 to become the first Brazilian to manage a British club. However, things did not work out and after nine games (3 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats) he resigned on October 14 that year.
In June 2006, Maximo was appointed head coach of the Tanzania national side and helped the Taifa Stars to qualify for Caf’s African National Championships (Chan) in the Ivory Coast last year where the DR Congo beat Ghana in the final.
Meanwhile, Bucs current coach Ruud Krol says he is going nowhere.
Speculation is that Krol is under pressure to quit after Bucs finished in a disappointing fifth position in the Absa Premiership and were then bombed out of the CAF Champions League at the first hurdle, was dismissed by Krol today.
Krol said he was not under any pressure to resign: "This is nothing new. I do not feel the pressure. We have had good and bad times during the League season and I still have a contract with Pirates and intend staying and completing it."
