Morris – Why I sent sms to Parreira…

Posted: 2010-03-09 17:23

Nasief Morris explains to KickOff.com his reasons for sending Carlos Alberto Parreira a phone text message.

Since his tiff with former Bafana Bafana coach Joel Santana, Morris, the only South African player in La Liga, has not been called up for national team duty despite his assurances that he is ready whenever called upon.

The Racing Santander defender says he's taken matters into his own hands.

"When I was in Cape Town I called Pitso (Mosimane) and asked for Carlos' number. Pitso said I must try getting the number from one of the Safa officials, a manager or something like that, because he is not allowed to give out Carlos' number," Morris explains.

"But that was the time I got my Visa and I was ready to return to Spain. But eventually I got Carlos' number (can't say from who), but I didn't want to call him directly so I just sent a text message to ask if it is possible for me to come back (to the squad) because I want to come back… I sent the message to him last week Thursday from one of my European numbers so since I'm in Europe I will see the response when it comes through," he tells KickOff.com.

"I want to sort out whatever problem (they have with me) and things like that, but I haven't received a response from Carlos. I'm trying to find out what is the real problem and I can speak to Pitso about it, but it is better if I speak to Carlos, because he is the head coach and he makes the decisions. I want to speak to him to find out what's going on," he says.

"I will just have to wait, hopefully he will respond. I really want to play for my country," Morris adds.

Morris got into Santana's bad books for allegedly being 'disrespectful' and 'confrontational' on his arrival in camp for the Fifa Confederations Cup nine months ago. He was soon dropped with five more players when Santana reduced the squad and has never been called up since.

Parreira has said many a times that "we have nothing against Morris". Perhaps a reply to his SMS will prove just that.

Thabang [The KHOSI One]: 2010-03-09 18:08

We appreciate your desire to represent our country but I think you shouldn't be so desparate start pressing panic botton. If u didn't make it for WC then there still Orange OR Banana Nations Cup ntwana maan.

You should be proud of yourself outie yami since you're the only SA player in Spain, playing with the likes of Messi,Henry,Kaka & C.Ronaldo.

Here's another story Tiyani. I sent an sms to Das Nevs asking to play for Vasco Da Gama. Please report it. Seems like you are running out of real soccer news to report. Who cares if a player is sending an sms.

Morris is not just any player, it is a player most people feel should be in the squad. In a country affected by the club v country factor over the years, it is refreshing to see a player going to great lengths to show that he is willing to play for his country... that for me is bigger than Vasco.

Ole(The Guru): 2010-03-10 07:10

We have forgiven Benni why not him??????

BrokeFan: 2010-03-10 08:01

I also believe this man still has a lot to offer. Carlos, please do the right thing and explain to this young man why he is not getting the call up so he can improve or rectify his mistake. I think the same thing should be done to all other senior players who wants to know why they are not getting call ups like they used to. Please I am not saying everyone I am talking 20 caps and above. Mr Carlos, if the reason is that you got better players, simply say so.

Oyintanda: 2010-03-10 08:06

Benni has never disrespected other players and coach and this fool Morris confronted the coaches and said he cant come from overseas and seat on the Bench and watch the likes of Gould plays. He was so full of himself whilst he was the main course that we failed to qualify for the AFCON as he granted Zambia with gud through passes and scored against us.This Morris has more than 30 Caps for Bafana and he has always underperfomed in all those matches whilst the coaches were giving him chance. He last played last yera and how can he sms the coaches for selection whilst he was just staying in Cape Town for three monthsw without kicking a ball.

Don Archie: 2010-03-10 08:11

hehehehe Morris what's this now.
Don't call us, we'll call you.
Die boy otla ka metaile

Thizo: 2010-03-10 08:52

Life is not fair mara hey, Perreira is busy begging an unwilling useless player like Benni to play for Bafana while a willing useful player like Morris is busy begging Perreira to play for Bafana.

SIBUSISO: 2010-03-10 09:46

TTM, we appreciate your effort baba to give us information and development in regard with BB and the players abroad. However, this issue of Morris and BB is not understandable. I mean, some of the bloggers here feel Morris must be given a chance yet the coach does not feature him to games like the one we had between Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Namibia.

I think there a big problem with this player. To me its evident now that.....QUOTE.......

"I want to sort out whatever problem (they have with me) and things like that, but I haven't received a response from Carlos. I'm trying to find out what is the real problem and I can speak to Pitso about it, but it is better if I speak to Carlos, because he is the head coach and he makes the decisions. I want to speak to him to find out what's going on," he says

He has a problem which we dont know but he does. The question now is, would he ask to be included in the BB squad if it was not for the WC?????

Don Archie: 2010-03-10 09:55

Guys TTM is passionate about journalism in general, I started reading his articles from when he was still a student writing for a publication called TAXI!

If my memory serves me well Morris has never turned down a national call-up, even at U23 level. If he had turned us down before I will understand, but he hasn't. Secondly, for the nation's interest, why is it that the Bafana technical team don't want to open up about why they are not giving him a chance? I tell you what, I was at a Bafana team announcement in Sandton towards sometime last year and Santana was still around. So this Leal guy, the assistant was chatting to some journalist, I think they call him Jonty Mark and Leal said and I quote "We don't select Morris, because he is not good enough". There was an SABC Journalist there called Velile Mbuli, just behind, recording it, but Leal saw this and he was ready to beat up Velile, because he said Velile was disrespecting him to record a conversation between 'two friends', which was not for public consumption. Why is this Leal guy not telling the nation the real truth why they are snubbing Morris? If they do, we will respect their views on the player and leave the issue alone, but for now we can't because most SA people feel Morris deserves his place in this team.

TTM: 2010-03-10 10:05

Archie: 2010-03-10 09:55
Ha, ha, ha, you probably remember the gay column at Taxi, that almost got me fired. Those were the days, man.

Muporo: 2010-03-10 10:10

Morries show a sense of professionalism. if you are not selected it means dose who are selectd are better dan u. u have not ben playing for a while and u expect favours. no no no man, be a man and accept it. Ronaldinho has not been selected for Brasil, who are you. u have been playing for bafana bafana for years, give others a chance. Bye Bye.

Ja the man (TTM) has is. TTM is one of the best...

SIBUSISO: 2010-03-10 10:33

TTM, I agree with you. Morris has been always around. I realised that just after I posted my comment and I read the last question I posted. Now that you have mentioned this Leal guy and what he said last year, do you think Pitso has to do something about this and if so what channels has to be followed.

So we can all agree that the problem is with this assistant Leal not Morris as he is willing to come back.

TTM, i understand your argument bud, but the ability to kick a soccer ball alone does not make one a good footballer. No one doubted Morris' ability. He is actually much better than most of our current BB defenders if not all. However, bad attitude overrides the meaning of the word TEAM. That's why there were unconfirmed rumours about TEKO's attitude towards his BB teammates and that alone is the biggest enemy of our national team success.

I don’t know all details around this Morris issue but my take is: No coach in his sane mind would overlook the quality of Morris, unless "something" negates that quality.

Thabang [The KHOSI One]: 2010-03-10 10:56

Guys I think most of us miss a point here. You can carry a huge name in public but you must remain HUMBLE and being humble is definitely one of the elements of success. You can have all other elements, from dedication to devotion to commitment to consultation to networking and availability, etc but without being HUMBLE at all time, all may come to nothing.

I like Morries more than all other BB defenders but he is not bigger than BB and no one is.

I hear you mfowethu. It will be better if the technical team opens up about this issue, tell the nation exactly what happened. Most of us used to blame Benni for refusing call-ups, but is that really what he used to do? wasn't he complaining about something? to this day we don't know the real story, so we need a technical team that will be open about issues like this. Look at Khenyeza, they said something happened and that's why he is out of the picture, but if you ask them they say it is not for public consumption. Isn't this a national team? The public deserves to know.

I completely agree TTM; SAFA house is not in order. That's why all these questions remain unanswered. But there definitely is a problem between Morris and his SAFA employee bosses. The same with Benni...But I guess it's wrong to judge before SAFA & BB Tech open up about this, if it may at all happen!

prism: 2010-03-10 12:11

I smell a rat...it's clear that Pitso is the saboteur here, pushing his own hidden agenda at the expense of a talented player like Nasief Morris, and Parreira is buying into this crap. Nasief my man, you are not alone; players such as Eduardo Ferreira (naturalised SA Brazilian who now plays for Sundowns) is another. Mark my words, Matthew booth won't form the core of the final 23 men sqaud, thanks the ***** called Pitso!

u are very smart my bra,i used to be a regular here and guys used give u names and use valgue language towards u, but u never replied, but now i can see u are also on the blog for a very important isue,so keep it up bra,TELL THOSE MOEGOES WE NEED TO KNOW WHY AREN'T THEY CALLING THIS GUY FOR BB,IF THEY CAN CALL CARNEL IN THE SECOND DIVISION IN GERMAN LEUGUE,OF WHICH THEIR FIRST DIVISION (BUNDISLIGA) IS NO 4 IN EUROPE,AND A PLAYER WHO PLAYS IN THE LEAGUE REGARDED AS NO 1 IN EUROPE CAN NOT BE GOOD ENOUGH,KANJANI MAAR,THAT LEAGUE PRODUCED MORE IF NOT ALL FIFA WORLD PLAYER OF THE YEAR,

prism: 2010-03-10 12:17

Parreira should not be dictated to by Pitso. He (Parreira)must swallow his pride and assemble the strongest defence yet, comprising Nasief Morris, Eduardo Ferreira, Morgan Gould, Marc van Heerden, Tsepo Masilela, Siyabonga Sangweni and Lucas Thwala!

KaMashobana: 2010-03-10 12:21

TTM
Point of correction, the onus does not only lie with Parreira or Safa to explain to the nation what happened. If Morris knows deep down in his heart that he was not on the wrong, he should come out in the open...should he have a point , we will support him.

No coach in his right mind will want to be messed around by one player..or a group of them for that matter.Thabang is 150% the coach will not simple a player of his calibre without valid reasons!Remember Sir Alex kicking a boot that flew to Beckham's eye,the rest is now history!

Morris should fight for selection by doing the right things both on and off the field of play. Playing in the LaLiga (alone) is definately not enough .Otherwise istimela siyashiya. If he doesnt make to German camp...its over for him.

TTM: 2010-03-10 12:31

KaMashobana: 2010-03-10 12:21
Sure, boet. Yeah, you are right it is better both parties explain the 'disrespectful' and 'confrontational' nature of Morris, so we can have all our best players available.

Rasta: 2010-03-10 12:32

I personally think that Nasief Morris is a very good player, but his desperacy to play for the national team in the World Cup is rather putting me off. If he wants to help the national team then it shouldn't be for the reasons of the world cup. A reasonable person will make themselves available after the world cup. Stop being desperate and concentrate on your game. It's funny how people are now desperate to play because it's my belief that SA football, especially when it comes to the national team, is going to suffer a lot after the showpiece because there would really not be that rush anymore to play for the national side. Real players with real need and capabilities to play will be called up for Bafana Bafana, and superstars can go eat thorns. Look at Pienaar and Mokoena, real patriots. Mokoena might not be the best of players but at least he loves his country. Nasief, call Mabizela and ask for advice of how to deal with Pareira.

The cute one: 2010-03-10 12:35

Hierdi laaitie is desperate ne to an extent of asking for a game from a coach? JA NE

Marenkeni: 2010-03-10 14:57

CRAZY! SO SHOULD ALL OTHER PSL PLAYERS THAT WERE NOT CALLED-UP SENT SMS'S TO CARLOS PERREIRA? MR MORRISE, THULA AND VOETSEK. YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE BIGGER THAN THE GAME. SALA MOENIE KOM. SHOULD YOU CONTINUE TALKING TOO MUCH THEN I'LL ORGANISE JUB JUB AND THE BOYS TO DRIVE AROUND SPAIN. THEY WILL FIND YOU BEFORE YOU FIND THEM. THULA MAAN!
