Pienaar banned from driving

Bafana Bafana midfielder Steven Pienaar will have to catch a lift to training at English Premiership Everton after being banned from driving in the UK for 12 months.
The 27-year-old pled guilty to drink driving on court and was also fined £1 000 (R11 000), with an additional £100 (R1 100) for failing to comply with a traffic signal.
Pienaar was reportedly twice the legal limit after being pulled over in the early hours of the morning following Everton's 3-1 victory over Manchester United in an English Premiership fixture on February 21.
He can get his sentence reduced by three months if he undergoes an alcohol awareness course before October 7.
Pienaar has had continued bad luck with the law since arriving at Goodison Park in 2007. An ex-girlfriend called the police on him claiming a domestic dispute, but no action was taken, and he was then one of many Merseyside footballers to have his house burgled in recent years.
The Bafana midfielder tells KickOff.com he has learnt his lesson. “It is okay, man. It is part of life and you learn from these things,” he says.
He will hope that these off-field problems do not affect his game, having emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Premiership this season, and a key man for Bafana Bafana's chances at the 2010 World Cup.
