Ivory Coast set to appoint Troussier

According to a report in Japanese newspaper Sports Nippon, former Bafana Bafana coach Philippe Troussier is on the verge of signing a contract as the new head coach of Ivory Coast's national team.

Les Elephants are in the market for a new coach due to the departure of Vahid Halilhodzic last month. The Bosnian coach was sacked following Ivory Coast's disappointing performances at the African Nations Cup.

They were previously linked with high profile names such as Guus Hiddink and Sven-Goran Eriksson, but negotiations with the aforementioned duo did not lead to an agreement.

As a result, the Ivorian FA has now seemingly turned its attention to Troussier. The Frenchman is known as the "White Witch Doctor" for his success with African club teams such as Asec Abidjan of the Ivory Coast.

The 54-year-old has previously been in charge of Japan, Nigeria, South Africa, Qatar and Morocco, but is currently unemployed.

The report claims that Troussier could be announced as the new man in charge of Les Elephants by the end of the week.

Isn't this supposed to be the "African World Cup"?. Why are our African counterparts imposing the European mentality instead of empowering our local coaches?
