Majavu explains DC charges

PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu has responded to a KickOff.com reader who queried the R21 OOO the League charges for the cost of sitting for their Disciplinary Hearings.
'An', a KickOff.com reader questioned why the League always charges the amount on top of the fines, saying it is too much for hearings that probably last "10 minutes", before a verdict is reached.
For instance, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Vladimir Vermezovic was fined R50 000 last night after he pleaded guilty to the charge of bringing the League into disrepute.
This was after he stormed into the field in a match against Black Aces to confront referee Buyile Gqubule for blowing the whistle for halftime when Chiefs winger George Lebese was one-on-one with Black Aces keeper Oscar Ramogoadi.
The fine is wholly suspended for 12 months. However, he was ordered to pay approximately R21 000, which is the cost of the DC sitting.
Majavu explains how the amount builds up to approximately R21 000, "That is the amount of money that the League pays to the (independent) members of the DC. The entire committee of four people is not employed by the League," Majavu says.
In essence, the League pays the law officials that chair the sitting and then recoups the amount from the PSL lawbreaker.
"It also includes the catering if it goes on for longer. The League also pays an independent company that records the proceedings (of the hearing). So all those costs amount to approximately R21 000," Majavu explains.
