Accra Hearts of Oak moved to within three points of Glo Premier League leaders Aduana Stars after a weekend when the top two faltered.
Aduana who are having a fine season in their first campaign were pegged back in their bid for a first title after being held to a goalless draw at home to regional rivals Bechem Chelsea.
Second placed AshantiGold could not take full advantage, losing on the road to Heart of Lions who are now 4th on the log.
Hearts of Oak took full advantage of the slip by the top two thanks to their 1-0 win over ten-man Great Olympics in the Accra Derby.
Samuel Affum scored the only goal that has taken the Phobians level on points with AshantiGold but two behind Aduana ahead of the big weekend clash against Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Kotoko are four points behind Hearts of Oak and six behind the league leaders after they could only manage a 1-1 draw away at Sekondi Hasaacas who have given their relegation battle a major boost.
Edward Affum scored the opening goal for Kotoko before Joe Agyemang drew the home side level just before the break.
Liberty Professionals were the beneficiaries of Kotoko's slip climbing to fifth place after their 4-0 routing of Kessben FC at the Carl Reindorf Park.
King Faisal sunk Sekondi Eleven Wise deeper into a relegation dogfight after beating them 2-0 in Kumasi with goals from Frank Acheampong and Ebo Andoh.
Real Tamale United came back from a goal down to beat Berekum Arsenals 2-1 at the Tamale Sports Stadium. Elsewhere Wa All Stars held New Edubiase to a goalless draw in Obuasi.
