Sharks tendered a grovelling apology to the Nigeria Football Federation, and are due to have their suspension lifted, after promising to reinstate former General Manager Okey Kpalukwu.
The indefinite suspension, which would have meant automatic relegation, was handed down to the Port Harcourt side after internal squabbles within the club led to Kpalukwu being hurriedly reassigned to a different Ministry.
An NFF directive that the GM be reinstated with immediate effect was met with an obstinate letter from Sharks claiming that the redeployment was a 'routine' civil service procedure.
Unimpressed, the NFF came down hard on the Garden City club, with the threat of further sanctions.
A humbled Rivers State Sports Commissioner Boma Iyaye was forced to write three grovelling letters in quick succession to the NFF, and included a guarantee that Kpalukwu would be reinstated.
On the strength of those letters, KickOffNigeria.com understands that the NFF are now expected to lift the suspension on the suitably chastised Sharks within the next 24 to 48 hours.
This means the Port Harcourt club will now be free to take part in the NPL elections on March 10.
